47. Discretion

"What is this?" Frederick asked, containing the anger he felt at that moment.

"Your Majesty, I'm sorry..." the timid man replied, "A man in the Royal Guard uniform, carrying a letter with your seal, went for the bandits who attacked you and your betrothed. Everything seemed to be in order, and my men did not hesitate to follow the written orders. We thought it was you’re doing."

The Queen Mother rose as if driven by a greater force.

"What do you mean you've suffered an attack?" she immediately questioned.

Frederick grimaced; he had completely forgotten that his mother hadn't been notified. In fact, no one in the palace knew, except the authorities, Selene, and his men who promised not to say anything about the attack, and, of course, the mastermind behind Selene's abduction. His eyes couldn't help but search for Henry; the Duke of Astor didn't seem so calm, and something inside him screamed that he was responsible. Unfortunately, there was no evidence against him.
