Chapter 25: Under the moonlight

He might have noticed the joy in Betty today. Was that it? Joy? Or just hidden sadness, tried to be concealed on some laughter?

He did not care. The world had changed somehow for a bit when he saw her laughing - for the first time. They had stopped walking on sunset and set up camp for their tired selves. Albert was leading them and he was sitting far behind them, taking his rest. He had carried Mark all day and he understood how tired he was. 

Mark stayed with Albert even when they had all already settled. He was glad of it though. He could have some alone time with Betty. 

They gathered around a fire. Some men had made jokes on their game for their dinner. They were roasting a rabbit and two little birds. That would not be enough meat for them but they were so glad that they had something to share over the fire. It was not the food though. It was the talk.
