Emma Spencer.
I see how Peter frowns at what I told him and without thinking he asks me, “marriage of convenience? What are you talking about? Did your parents force you?”
I feel my heart pounding at his questioning. I quickly told him, “My parents had nothing to do with my decision. In fact, they were against it. They never liked Albert, but I’m too stubborn to change my mind. The decision was based on what I thought was best for me.”
“Forgive me, dear, but I still don’t understand.”
I sigh and say, “You see, I wanted a family of my own. I always felt like something was missing. I always felt like a broken piece. I stopped feeling that feeling when Maddie was born. Not even when I got married. It was she who brought peace and that sense of belonging that I sought so much.”
I see he is going to ask me something when we are interrupted by the sound of my cell phone. I take it out of my pocket and see that it is my mother. “Forgive me, Peter, but I must answer.”
He gave me a hand movement to let me know he was okay. “Hello, mom?”
“Daughter! Where are you? You have me extremely worried. You should have gotten home hours ago. Albert keeps asking about you. What did he do this time?”
“Mom, no matter what happens, don’t let Albert take Maddie. Promise me!”
“Emma, I wouldn’t allow it. But tell me, what happened?”
“Albert cheated on me, mom. I discovered him in bed with his secretary, Annie. Don’t let him near the house, mom. I’m at a friend’s house, trying to calm down. I will go there, but please, mom, protect her.”
“I won’t let him get close, Emma. I give you my word. Come soon darling. I love you.”
“And I love you too, mom.” We both hung up at the same time.
Peter watches me carefully and then asks, “Why would Albert take Maddie?”
I open my eyes wide, and worry invades me. “For Albert, Maddie is a bargaining chip. He has never been a good father to her. I’m afraid that he wants to take her to force me to return.”
I hear a roar come out of his mouth and his eyes turn black. I hold my breath, seeing him so fiercely. I know I should fear him, but for some reason, I don’t fear him.
“I won’t let that bastard hurt you, Emma.”
Then he stands up, extends his hand, and tells me, “Let’s go look for your daughter. You’ll stay with me, Emma, and I won’t take no for an answer. This is the safest place in the country. He can never set foot on my property.”
I swallowed hard and, without thinking; I took his hand, and we quickly headed to the car.
A tall, handsome blonde man approaches us saying, “here are your car keys, boss.”
Peter turns around and, without letting go of my hand, he says, “Emma, this is William. He is my personal assistant. He takes care of all my affairs. If you ever need anything, he will help you.”
“Nice to meet you, William.”
“The pleasure is mine, Emma.” Peter frowns and clears his throat. William looks at him nervously and says, “Sorry, Mrs. Spencer.”
“There is better. I want you to prepare the room next to mine. Emma’s suitcase is in the trunk of her car.”
“Right away, boss.”
Peter opens the door for me and helps me in. It’s a beautiful Bentley. He gets in and I watch him with my eyebrow raised. “Why did you behave like that with your assistant? He just greeted me.”
“I don’t like the people addressed you impersonally, Emma.”
“Ah, but you can?”
“Of course.”
“Why?”
He smiles widely, starts the engine, as he tells me, “Because I’m the boss.” I roll my eyes and look out the window.
He says to me, “Did you just roll your eyes at me?”
I look at him defiantly as I say, “Yes.”
“Is that polite?”
I lift my chin, more defiant than before, as I say, “So? Will you do something about it?”
He raises an eyebrow and says, “I might have to punish you when we get back.”
I laugh and tell him, “Peter, I haven’t gotten a punishment since I was three.”
“Perhaps that’s what you need, dear.”
I widen my eyes and say, “You mean you’re going to put me on your lap and spank me a couple of times?”
A laugh resonates in his chest as he tells me, “That’s not a bad idea. I think you would enjoy it a lot, Emma, even more than me.”
I shake my head in denial. But I must say that it is the first time that I feel free to play or joke like this. I never could with Albert. He always told me I emasculated him because I was too dominant. But wasn’t my fault that he was so weak.
Seeing Peter dominate the situation and be able to challenge him makes me feel bold and daring and if I must be honest with myself, my panties got wet just imagining lying on his lap.
I swallow hard and look out the window, avoiding any eye contact with this man who is capable of revolutionizing any woman’s hormones.
“Why are you avoiding looking at me? Are you afraid of being attracted to me? Do you feel you want me to dominate you?”
I open my eyes wide; I turn my head without believing his questions. How he knows? Did my face give me away? I look at him in shock. He looks at me and starts laughing again.
“Can you tell me what’s funny? Because, for me, none of this is.” I cross my arms, annoyed.
“Yes, it’s funny, since I can sense that you have gone your entire life with no one telling you what to do. Now, comes along a complete stranger who proposes to you, and you realize you can’t resist him. Don’t question it, Dr. Biologically, every woman, even if she is strong and independent, needs to have a person by her side who can handle her."
His smile widens as he finishes saying, "Well darling, let me tell you that you found it. I can handle you.”
I swallow hard and feel my heart beating like crazy. I bit my lower lip, breathing heavily. He raises an eyebrow at me and says, “do you want me to help you calm down?”
“I’m not having sex with you, Peter!”
He turns his head and smiles as he says, “It wasn’t exactly what I had in mind, but… I like the way you think!”
I feel my face turning red in several shades of red. I look down at my hands. He takes one from me and starts petting it, making a sound that comes from his chest like a purr.
Although it seems so strange, I feel my heart rate decrease, calming me down. After a few minutes, I couldn’t help but say, “thank you.”
He smiles and says, “This is what I meant by calming you down.”
I nod in silence. Then he asks me, “Should I turn right or left?”
“On the right. You go three blocks and on the left is the neighborhood. The house number is 8060.”
“Alright.”
It only took a few minutes before we arrived at my parents’ house. I’m about to go down when he steps forward and opens the door for me, extending his hand. I still can’t get used to what a gentleman he is.
We walked to the door when I noticed him sniffing the air. He opens his eyes wide, and I can see how his eye color changes and becomes dark, almost black.
He turns violently on me, grabs my shoulders against the wall and screams, “Why can I smell my daughter in there?”
Emma Spencer.Peter turns violently on me, grabs my shoulders against the wall and shouts, “Why can I smell my daughter in there?”I open my eyes wide, breathing heavily, not knowing how to respond to that. “Your daughter? What the hell are you talking about, Peter? It’s just Maddie in there. Let me go!”“So, she is my daughter, Emma. I can smell her! It is my blood that runs through her veins!”“What do you mean, you can smell her? We’re not animals, Peter. What the hell is wrong with you? If you keep yelling like that, you’ll scare everyone in there, including Maddie.”I watch as he tries to calm down as he tells me, “She is not Albert’s daughter, Emma. How did you conceive her? How did you get pregnant?”“How do you know she’s not his daughter?”“Answer the fucking question!”I feel as if an invisible power is hitting me, forcing me to respond truthfully. I breathe raggedly, trying to endure the pain that comes with it, while sweat appears on my forehead.I tell him, “By artificia
Peter Bennett.Maddie whispers to me, “Daddy, I know they’re not my grandparents.”My grip on both tightens. I examine them and know immediately who and where they are from.“What the hell is he doing here, the beta and his wife, from the royal pack of the north?” Apollo asks me, totally annoyed by what we are witnessing.“I don’t know, Apollo, but something tells me they were the ones who raised Emma as their own. The question is why? Maddie knows they’re not her grandparents, so why are they here?”“Isn’t it obvious? King Alexander had a Plan B… Emma.” I close my eyes, regretting what we just discovered.I quickly called William by mental link. “William, get everyone here now!” I don’t wait for his response.I take a deep breath, so as not to scare Maddie or Emma, as I say, “John, I haven’t seen you in a while. I thought you had died. What are you doing in the southern lands? You are very far from home.”I watched as his face and his wife completely break down. Emma says to me, “W
Emma Spencer. “For thirty years they have searched for you, because you are the rightful heir to the northern throne, hidden in the south's heart.” That phrase echoes incessantly in my mind. In the last twenty-four hours, my life has changed drastically without being able to go back. The security that I felt yesterday morning when I woke up no longer exists. Nothing in my life is true. It makes me question whether I have guided every decision I have made by invisible forces orchestrating against one. My belief that one forges one’s destiny has been completely destroyed. A million questions constantly invade me, but one is the one that stands out every time I think about this whole situation: why? After they took my parents away, Peter took us back to his house. Maddie couldn’t stop talking to Peter about what his life had been like away from her all these years. I just limited myself to observing this exchange. The trust that has been born between them seems extremely strange to
Peter Bennett. It hurts my heart to see my mate so sad. I totally understand why. Apollo doesn’t stop howling, given the emotions we feel, through the mate bond, which she does not know exists. I see the woman in front of me and I feel so blessed that she is mine. “Start, from the beginning, Peter. I want to know everything.” I swallow hard, as I watch my beautiful mate looking at me with her eyes wide open, waiting for what I have to say. I clear my throat and say, “There are different societies in this world. Humans are just one of them. Different creatures live among them, such as werewolves and Lycans.” I continued, “Our culture collaborates with humans, but we do not mix. This means that we can do business with them, work with them or for them, but we do not match with them. It is forbidden to be with a human being.” Emma interrupts me by asking, “What’s the difference between a werewolf and a Lycan?” “A werewolf can turn into a wolf when required. They are two entities sha
Parker Bennett.Dazed by the journey my brother forced me to undertake to the northern lands, I am glad it is over. I’ve been abroad for months and I just miss my bed and my space. It was a very hard time, where I could achieve what I wanted: information. Peter will be happy with everything I discovered about King Harry.I get off the plane and am pleased that William, Peter’s beta, is waiting for me.“Nice to see you, Prince Parker. I hope the flight was uneventful.”I smile at him, tired, as I say, “Thank you, William. Yes, it was a comfortable trip, despite the distance. Tell me, how is my grumpy brother?”I watch as William shares a nervous smile, as he says, “Our king, he has met his mate, my prince.”I stop dead. “What? How? When? Who is she?”To tell the truth, I always believed that I would find her first. I always tried to take comfort in the fact that, if I wasn’t king, I would at least have my fated mate. But I see that the goddesses laugh at me once again. As his twin, we
Emma Spencer.I gasp in surprise as I see this man, extremely similar to Peter, looking at me from the doorway. He lunges at me, pinning me against the wall with his body, and pressing his hips against me. He takes my hands and places them above my head.It took me completely by surprise, but it was the sexiest thing a man has ever made me feel.Whisper in my ear, “mine.”His touch and his breath on my skin send thousands of sparks that run through my body, making me melt before his touch, losing all notion of reasoning. I let out a moan as I closed my eyes.I feel him run his tongue over my neck, and I can’t help but bite my lip. Out of nowhere, a shocking roar resonates from the door.I turn my head and see a livid Peter looking at us from the doorway. He’s panting heavily, and I can see he’s trying to hold back.“What the fuck do you think you’re doing, Parker?”I open my eyes wide, look at him and say, “Parker? Who is Parker?”Peter, without leaving his place, tells me with a hoars
Peter Bennett. After chatting with Emma and having her stay with Maddie playing in the garden, we met with Parker in my office. He enters and sits on the couch, placing his legs on the table. He does it because he knows it’s something I hate.“Can you take your feet off the table? What is the matter with you?”He rolls his eyes as he says, “You’re no fun, Peter. Well, I’m here. We have a lot to talk about.”I watch as the door opens, and it is William who enters, sitting on the single sofa in front of me.With William, we have the implicit deal that outside the house, he calls me boss, Mr. Bennett, or king, depending on whether we are with our people or with the humans. But inside the house, he calls us Peter and Parker since he grew up with us. He is my best friend. The three of us used to get into trouble, getting into mischief. He was always the mastermind of evacuation plans. Remembering those times makes me smile.I watch as he greets Parker with a set of hands, which they have al
Emma Spencer.Once Parker, Peter, and William assembled, they exited the office and joined us in the kitchen. Maddie and I baked cupcakes since we had agreed that we would visit Dad. Gosh, dad!“Hey pumpkin! What are you doing?” Peter tells her, with an amused smile.“Silly daddy. We are baking cupcakes. Mommy said we would see grandpa.”I watch as Peter looks at me with his eyebrow raised. “Oh, yeah?”I put my hands on my waist, as I say, “Do you have something to tell me, Peter?”Maddie looks at us and says, “oh - oh… daddy’s in trouble.”Parker laughs as he says, “Daddy still hasn’t learned not to make Mommy angry.”Maddie laughs as she tells him, “Yes. Daddy has to learn.”“Hum… I’m right here, you know? You are talking like I’m not in the kitchen.” A grumpy Peter speaks to them.“Emma, I assume that if you’re baking, it’s because you’re coming with us,” William tells me. There’s something strange about him. He looks at me cautiously, as if he were hiding something. I feel like h
