Emma Spencer.
Peter turns violently on me, grabs my shoulders against the wall and shouts, “Why can I smell my daughter in there?”
I open my eyes wide, breathing heavily, not knowing how to respond to that. “Your daughter? What the hell are you talking about, Peter? It’s just Maddie in there. Let me go!”
“So, she is my daughter, Emma. I can smell her! It is my blood that runs through her veins!”
“What do you mean, you can smell her? We’re not animals, Peter. What the hell is wrong with you? If you keep yelling like that, you’ll scare everyone in there, including Maddie.”
I watch as he tries to calm down as he tells me, “She is not Albert’s daughter, Emma. How did you conceive her? How did you get pregnant?”
“How do you know she’s not his daughter?”
“Answer the fucking question!”
I feel as if an invisible power is hitting me, forcing me to respond truthfully.
I breathe raggedly, trying to endure the pain that comes with it, while sweat appears on my forehead.
I tell him, “By artificial insemination.”
His grip loosens and that invisible power I feel softens, letting me breathe normally. I gasp for the air I desperately need, touching my throat.
“Artificial insemination? Where?”
Panting, I tell him. “Why you want to know?”
“Emma, please answer me! I need to know!”
I sigh, defeated, and tell him, “No Horizon Fertility Clinic.”
His eyes widen, and he places a hand on his forehead. His eyes shine and I see how the tears run down his face, disconcerting me. “Why are you crying? What’s wrong, Peter? Tell me!”
“She is my daughter, Emma. Six years ago, I went to that clinic to have my sperm studied, since I wanted to become a father and at thirty years old, it had not happened. Nobody knew how or why, but the sample was lost. There was an investigation, but we never found out what happened.”
I am left absolutely speechless. I cover my mouth with one hand as I try to process what he’s telling me.
He wipes away his tears and whispers to me, “I know she’s mine, Emma. If you want, we can do a DNA test, but I know she is my daughter.”
I frown and feel possessive. “You’re not taking her, Peter! I won’t let you take her away from me.”
He looks at me strangely, while he says, “What? I would never separate you from her, Emma. No, what I want is for us to take our daughter and take her to my house. You will stay with me, and that is final, Emma. I will not accept it to be any other way.”
I breathe heavily with a thousand questions running through my head until a sweet voice coming from the door interrupts our conversation.
“Mommy? Is that you, mommy?”
I force a smile on my face as I tell her, “Yes, baby, it’s mom.”
“Mommy! I missed you so much, mommy!”
“And I miss you too, baby.” I pick her up, placing my nose on her neck, sniffing her. God! I love her smell. I gently stroke her back, when suddenly she stops hugging me, turns around and I see how she smells the air, just like Peter did when we got home and she says to me, “Mommy, is my daddy here?”
I open my eyes wide and say, “Your daddy, Albert?”
“Mommy, Albert is not my daddy. He never has been.”
I’m going to retort when Peter interrupts us by saying, “Hello, pumpkin.”
She looks at him and her eyes shine with wonder. “Wow, you are my daddy! Where were you? I missed you so much, daddy. I asked the goddess a lot to bring you back, daddy.”
I am left speechless. What the hell does all this mean? How is it possible for both of them to recognize each other as father and daughter without proof? Goddess? What is all this?
I watch as Peter’s tears run down his face, and he offers her his arms to hug her. She jumps, without thinking, into his arms as she hugs him, kissing his face. Maddie never hugged or kissed Albert. Since she was very little, she ran away from him.
“Yes, it’s you, daddy! It’s you! The Goddess told me to be patient. She told me I could reunite with my family. And I prayed, I prayed a lot for you to come back, daddy.”
Peter, raising an eyebrow at me, asks Maddie, “The Moon Goddesses? Did one of them talk to you in your dreams, baby?”
“Yeah! Selene did! How do you know?”
“Because your grandmother Charlotte, she could also talk to the moon goddesses in her dreams, baby.” After that, she hugged him tighter than before.
When I see the image, all I do is cry with them. Peter doesn’t stop caressing her head and kissing her forehead, and Maddie gives him her beautiful smile.
He looks at me and offers me one of his arms. Without thinking, I hugged them both tightly. Peter whispers to me, “Thank you, dear, thank you. You just gave me a family.”
Without hiding my confusion, I tell him, “Peter, I understand nothing. What’s going on? What does this all mean?”
“Do not worry, sweetheart. You will understand everything. I promise you.”
“Get your dirty paws away from my family, you bastard!” The sound of Albert’s voice makes my blood freeze and fear runs through my body, holding my breath.
Peter, noticing the change in my body, hugs me tighter. He looks at him coldly and says, “They were never yours, Albert. They have always been mine. Now, stay away from this house, otherwise you want my men to kick you out.”
Albert laughs sarcastically as he says, “Men? Who do you think you are? I bet you’re trash just like Emma. Tell me, how long have you been fucking her?”
"Hey..." is what I manage to say when Peter roars in such a way that everyone hears it. A second later, a dozen men come out from the surrounding area and throw Albert to the ground.
“Take him away from here. You know what to do.”
“Right away, Mr. Bennett.”
Albert’s eyes widen and he says, “Mr. Bennett? Are you Mr. Bennett? Please forgive me, Mr. Bennett, I did not mean to insult you.”
“Shut up, Albert. Get him out of here.” I see how Albert screams for mercy, but no one listens to him. They threw him into a truck, and it speeds away.
After that, I hear my parents running out from inside the house, watching as the truck speeds away, while they say, “What the hell happened? Was that Albert?”
Peter’s grip on my shoulder tightens, his eyes turn black again, and I hear Maddie whisper to him, “Daddy, I know they’re not my grandparents.”
Peter Bennett.Maddie whispers to me, “Daddy, I know they’re not my grandparents.”My grip on both tightens. I examine them and know immediately who and where they are from.“What the hell is he doing here, the beta and his wife, from the royal pack of the north?” Apollo asks me, totally annoyed by what we are witnessing.“I don’t know, Apollo, but something tells me they were the ones who raised Emma as their own. The question is why? Maddie knows they’re not her grandparents, so why are they here?”“Isn’t it obvious? King Alexander had a Plan B… Emma.” I close my eyes, regretting what we just discovered.I quickly called William by mental link. “William, get everyone here now!” I don’t wait for his response.I take a deep breath, so as not to scare Maddie or Emma, as I say, “John, I haven’t seen you in a while. I thought you had died. What are you doing in the southern lands? You are very far from home.”I watched as his face and his wife completely break down. Emma says to me, “W
Emma Spencer. “For thirty years they have searched for you, because you are the rightful heir to the northern throne, hidden in the south's heart.” That phrase echoes incessantly in my mind. In the last twenty-four hours, my life has changed drastically without being able to go back. The security that I felt yesterday morning when I woke up no longer exists. Nothing in my life is true. It makes me question whether I have guided every decision I have made by invisible forces orchestrating against one. My belief that one forges one’s destiny has been completely destroyed. A million questions constantly invade me, but one is the one that stands out every time I think about this whole situation: why? After they took my parents away, Peter took us back to his house. Maddie couldn’t stop talking to Peter about what his life had been like away from her all these years. I just limited myself to observing this exchange. The trust that has been born between them seems extremely strange to
Peter Bennett. It hurts my heart to see my mate so sad. I totally understand why. Apollo doesn’t stop howling, given the emotions we feel, through the mate bond, which she does not know exists. I see the woman in front of me and I feel so blessed that she is mine. “Start, from the beginning, Peter. I want to know everything.” I swallow hard, as I watch my beautiful mate looking at me with her eyes wide open, waiting for what I have to say. I clear my throat and say, “There are different societies in this world. Humans are just one of them. Different creatures live among them, such as werewolves and Lycans.” I continued, “Our culture collaborates with humans, but we do not mix. This means that we can do business with them, work with them or for them, but we do not match with them. It is forbidden to be with a human being.” Emma interrupts me by asking, “What’s the difference between a werewolf and a Lycan?” “A werewolf can turn into a wolf when required. They are two entities sha
Parker Bennett.Dazed by the journey my brother forced me to undertake to the northern lands, I am glad it is over. I’ve been abroad for months and I just miss my bed and my space. It was a very hard time, where I could achieve what I wanted: information. Peter will be happy with everything I discovered about King Harry.I get off the plane and am pleased that William, Peter’s beta, is waiting for me.“Nice to see you, Prince Parker. I hope the flight was uneventful.”I smile at him, tired, as I say, “Thank you, William. Yes, it was a comfortable trip, despite the distance. Tell me, how is my grumpy brother?”I watch as William shares a nervous smile, as he says, “Our king, he has met his mate, my prince.”I stop dead. “What? How? When? Who is she?”To tell the truth, I always believed that I would find her first. I always tried to take comfort in the fact that, if I wasn’t king, I would at least have my fated mate. But I see that the goddesses laugh at me once again. As his twin, we
Emma Spencer.I gasp in surprise as I see this man, extremely similar to Peter, looking at me from the doorway. He lunges at me, pinning me against the wall with his body, and pressing his hips against me. He takes my hands and places them above my head.It took me completely by surprise, but it was the sexiest thing a man has ever made me feel.Whisper in my ear, “mine.”His touch and his breath on my skin send thousands of sparks that run through my body, making me melt before his touch, losing all notion of reasoning. I let out a moan as I closed my eyes.I feel him run his tongue over my neck, and I can’t help but bite my lip. Out of nowhere, a shocking roar resonates from the door.I turn my head and see a livid Peter looking at us from the doorway. He’s panting heavily, and I can see he’s trying to hold back.“What the fuck do you think you’re doing, Parker?”I open my eyes wide, look at him and say, “Parker? Who is Parker?”Peter, without leaving his place, tells me with a hoars
Peter Bennett. After chatting with Emma and having her stay with Maddie playing in the garden, we met with Parker in my office. He enters and sits on the couch, placing his legs on the table. He does it because he knows it’s something I hate.“Can you take your feet off the table? What is the matter with you?”He rolls his eyes as he says, “You’re no fun, Peter. Well, I’m here. We have a lot to talk about.”I watch as the door opens, and it is William who enters, sitting on the single sofa in front of me.With William, we have the implicit deal that outside the house, he calls me boss, Mr. Bennett, or king, depending on whether we are with our people or with the humans. But inside the house, he calls us Peter and Parker since he grew up with us. He is my best friend. The three of us used to get into trouble, getting into mischief. He was always the mastermind of evacuation plans. Remembering those times makes me smile.I watch as he greets Parker with a set of hands, which they have al
Emma Spencer.Once Parker, Peter, and William assembled, they exited the office and joined us in the kitchen. Maddie and I baked cupcakes since we had agreed that we would visit Dad. Gosh, dad!“Hey pumpkin! What are you doing?” Peter tells her, with an amused smile.“Silly daddy. We are baking cupcakes. Mommy said we would see grandpa.”I watch as Peter looks at me with his eyebrow raised. “Oh, yeah?”I put my hands on my waist, as I say, “Do you have something to tell me, Peter?”Maddie looks at us and says, “oh - oh… daddy’s in trouble.”Parker laughs as he says, “Daddy still hasn’t learned not to make Mommy angry.”Maddie laughs as she tells him, “Yes. Daddy has to learn.”“Hum… I’m right here, you know? You are talking like I’m not in the kitchen.” A grumpy Peter speaks to them.“Emma, I assume that if you’re baking, it’s because you’re coming with us,” William tells me. There’s something strange about him. He looks at me cautiously, as if he were hiding something. I feel like h
Emma Spencer.“Dad, why is my wolf asleep?”It’s a question I can’t help but ask. I watch as my father sighs as he says, “I knew this conversation would come at some point.”That phrase makes me very nervous. Parker, sensing how I feel, sits next to me, holding my hand. He draws circles with his thumb, sending those delicious sparks throughout my body. I close my eyes, focusing on the sensation.Somehow, I hear him in my head saying, “I know you said you didn’t want physical contact, but you need us, just like we need you. Let me help you babe, because I know these calms you down.”I close my eyes and nod in silence. He tells me, “Just focus on the sparks. Let them wash over you and breathe slowly.”I do what he tells me and after a few minutes; I feel my pulse slow down. My father says to me, “Are you okay, honey?” “Oh? Yes, now I am.” I look at Parker and whisper with a smile, “Thank you.”I clear my throat as I say, “Dad, just tell me. I need to know the truth.”“I suppose the kin
