Chapter 3

"My queen, my queen", the sound of Rosa calling out to her, brought Rayne back from her stunned state.

She blinked her eyes repeatedly and looked at Rosa.

"My queen, are you alright?", Rosa asked worriedly.

"I'm... I'm fine", Rayne answered.

"Should I call for the doctor?", Anthony offered and as soon as he spoke, it felt like the temperature in the room had dropped.

Rayne who had been focused on Rosa now slowly turned to look at him. The look in her eyes was unfathomable as she stared at him but her gaze made him uncomfortable.

"Yes please", Rosa answered.

"No, no need. I'm fine, I promise. I just need a little rest"

"Well then you should rest, let me help you to your bed", Rosa suggested.

"Let me help, my queen", Anthony suddenly offered.

"No", Rayne answered immediately and with such force that surprised both Rosa and Anthony.

Realizing how she must have sounded, Rayne smiled softly at Anthony.

"I mean, there's really no need. I'm fine, I can get to my bed just fine with Rosa", Rayne told him.

"Oh alright. I overstepped as well", Anthony said and smiled charmingly at her.

Rayne's eyes squinted at his smile. Anthony's smile froze. He didn't understand it, she was clearly smiling at him but there was something about the look in her eyes that felt cold.

"My queen, come", Rosa said as she helped Rayne to her bed.

"Thank you, Rosa", Rayne thanked her when she was lying down on her bed.

She looked up at Anthony.

"I'm sorry but I can't host you properly", she said with an apologetic smile.

"It's ok. It's my duty to serve and I'm just glad I had an opportunity to", Anthony replied with his signature charming smile.

"Hm. Thank you once again for helping me", Rayne thanked him.

"It was my honor", Anthony replied.

"Rosa will show you out", Rayne told him.

"This way please", Rosa said immediately and began to walk towards the door.

Anthony followed behind her. Rayne stared at his back intently, her eyes staring intently at him. Before leaving the room, Anthony turned and gave Rayne another glance. She had her eyes closed.

'That's weird', Anthony thought to himself.

He was sure he had felt someone staring intently at him. He shrugged and closed the door softly behind him.

Hearing the sound of the door closing, Rayne slowly opened her eyes. She stared intently at the door, her mind was in chaos. She stood up from the bed and rushed to the mirror. She stared at her reflection for a few seconds and began to slowly untie her gown. She stared at her naked body in the mirror and drew in a sharp breath, there was not even a scar on her body.

How was this possible? How could she be alive? She had died. She was sure of it. That bastard had stabbed her and she had died, so how was she still alive? And how did she end up here? She remembered when she was. This was two years before she died. The first time she and Anthony had met after he had saved her. An accident he had planned as he confessed when she was bleeding out on the floor in front of him. So not only was she alive, she had also gone back in time, to when they had just met but how? She remembered her last moments, how her heart had broken when she heard Anthony's words, how she hoped repeatedly that it wasn't true, how they had laughed at her, Anthony and her best friend, the more she thought of it, the more her anger grew until she was overwhelmed with blinding rage.

She also remembered asking for a second chance. She remembered as she was struggling with consciousness she had wished she could do it all over again. Was that it? Had the moon goddess heard her and granted her her wish? It was possible. As Rayne was lost in her thoughts, there was a knock on the door.

"Hold on", Rayne answered and hastily began to dress up.

She patted down her gown and looked at herself in the mirror to make sure she was well dressed. Satisfied that she looked presentable, she called out,

"Come in!"

"Finally! What took you so long?", a tiny female voice said as the door burst open.

Sophia walked in.

Rayne watched her as she walked in, her eyes cold. Sophia had been her best friend since they were children. She was the daughter of her father's Beta so they had basically grown up together. She was the first person she got close to and the only person she could call her friend. They had been so close that they were almost inseparable, to Rayne she had been more than just a friend, she had been her sister and Rayne had loved her and looked out for her. There was nothing Sophia had ever asked of her that Rayne didn't oblige to her. To Rayne, anything that was her's ws Sophia's as well. That was how close they were. But in the end Sophia had betrayed her. The pain from her betrayal was great but the anger Rayne felt now was greater.

"Rayne, how are you feeling?", Sophia asked.

"Fine. I feel better", Rayne answered her with a smile.

"That is wonderful. You had us all so worried", Sophia said with a pout.

Rayne used to find her pout cute but not now.

"Soooo I heard a young man helped you back?", Sophia asked as she sat on Rayne's bed.

"Yes, that's true", Rayne answered gently.

"Hmm, is he handsome?", Sophia asked him.

Rayne stared intensely at Sophia for a few seconds before replying,

"I'm not sure.... Is he?", Rayne answered her.

Sophia was flustered for a few seconds but quickly composed herself.

"I don't know", she answered sharply.

"I mean, I wouldn't know. I didn't see him", she added.

"But I heard some of the maids whispering so I wondered", she explained.

"Hmm...", Rayne hummed in response as she stared at Sophia.

Her gaze made Sophia very uncomfortable and she avoided Rayne's eyes but she tried not to show how uncomfortable she was.

"Well I'm not really sure... I didn't really pay attention to his looks", Rayne told her.

"Oh", Sophia responded.

Rayne smirked at the slight disappointment on Sophia's face.

"But if he comes again, I'll make sure to call you", Rayne offered.

Sophia's face immediately lit up after hearing her words.

"Really?", she asked Rayne excitedly.

"Yes", Rayne nodded in response.

"That would be nice", Sophia replied, trying not to sound so excited but Rayne could see it in her eyes.

"I have to go now, I have some errands to run", Sophia said as she stood up from Rayne's bed.

"I'll come back to see you later in the evening", Sophia told Rayne and hugged her.

Rayne returned her hug. Now when she held Sophia in her embrace and Sophia could not see her expression, the gentle smile that was on her face before disappeared. Her eyes were cold and her expression dark.

Rayne didn't know the real reason why she had been granted a second chance. She didn't fully understand how it had happened but one thing she knew for sure was that she was not going to waste it. She was going to use it well to correct all her mistakes and take her revenge. Oh yes, she was going to take her revenge on all those who had wronged and betrayed her. Starting with that bastard Anthony and her two faced best friend, Sophia.
