Chapter 2

I returned back to the living room after I was much pleased with my dressing. I had myself dressed in a crop top, just stopped exactly at my navel and a mummy jean. I made sure to use the right amount of perfume as Peter wasn’t a fan of strong perfumes, and I choose to abide by that.

“I am back.” I announced, running a hand through my hair. I met peter munching away on the food I prepared earlier while he uses his other hand to control the game pad. He nods his head without glancing my way. I put on all this energy to look good for nothing?

I am starting to get used to things peter does out of the line; the thing about peter is that playing online games comes first. It was something I had to learn the hard way and I have so far gotten to it. I got a small amount which will be enough to feed my stomach and headed to refrigerator to get some wine and beer can for Peter—I wasn’t eighteen, I know, but I just can’t help it. “Can you help me with one please?” Peter asked.

“Sure.” I replied as I juggled in my hands a plate of my delicacy and a bottle of wine and a champagne flute. I dropped everything on the miniature center table in the room. “Thank you,” Peter uttered, pleased as I passed him the can of beer.

Together, we ate in silence. It was boring—and I couldn’t do anything about it. I took a glimpse at him, wishing he’d just drop the game and give me his attention.

He cursed at the Tv as he groaned as he failed—it’s not a word directed to me though. Not to get things bad, but his is the best thing that has ever happened to me because he’s not all that bad. He could be the sweetest ever and I can’t ask him for more. I was the last to finish the food as always and I cleared the table after, taking another glass of wine. Two or three cups was enough for me—I wouldn’t want to get tanked-up just hours to my birthday.

Just as I was done doing the dishes, the light blacks out. I had to resist the urge to squeal due to how happy I was. I had count of the time, nothing the college will soon turn off the dorm light for some reasons known to them. They sent an email earlier apologizing for the shortage of the electricity service that will take place in the noon and I guess now is the time.

From the kitchen, I could hear Peter grumbling of how a shit our dorm is and reasons why I should live off the campus as they don’t get issues like this. “It is not that bad,” I contended, returning to the living room and I placed myself on his lap.

“Of course, you’ll say that.” He grumbled, nuzzling his nose on my neck and inhaled the heavenly scent of my body perfume. “You smell nice,” He slurred and I couldn’t resist the urge to blush for the second time today. “Why don’t you want to live off the campus?” He questioned as he looks up to me.

Actually, he has been asking me to move in with him but I declined, I can’t do so because I will only cause more than enough harm to him. My father has eyes in the school, they would not even waste to minute to inform him of my updates and Peter fails to understand.

“I can’t, Peter...” I stopped midway, trying to find the right words to pacify him. “I know you can’t but why?” He asked again, slightly irritated. It was the last thing I wanted—to see him upset.

I haven’t told him the reason why I don’t want to move in with him, even though he knows my father is involved in the Mafia, he doesn’t know he owns a whole mafia gang. “It is dangerous, my father will find out.” I finally said, after a while.

Peter’s expression was unreadable. I tried my best to read his expressions but no avail. “Peter,” I voiced out, my voice cracking.

My birthday is the next day and I don’t want to have a fight with him. I want to be as happy as I can be, because it is something that happens in a life time or maybe only a year time.

“Yeah, I get it. It will only cause me harm that I have no idea of.” He muttered, nonchalantly.

I pressed a chaste kiss on his lips. “I am sorry,” I whispered placing my head on his chest.

He used his left hand to stroke my hair, without giving me a reply, I was not actually expecting one. “So, what do you think we should do tomorrow?” I questioned. I just can’t help—I’m so excited. I’m turning eighteen—I will finally be allowed to validly do all the things that make life worth living, throw awesome parties and have fun, that’s all about turning 18.

I planned to bake a mini cake and then have a small party of me, Peter and Sarah in attendance. Small parties bang better.

“Tomorrow? We stay indoors like we always do?” He said, and I quote sarcasm.

“No Pete, tomorrow is my eighteenth birthday, Remember?” I reminded him. No way he forgot my birthday, he got to be kidding me. He forgot, didn’t he? How dare he forget such a big step up In my life?

I know almost everything about him. Almost everything, through a close friend of his and Sarah, of course.

“Oh, shit.” He cursed lowly. I furrowed my brows as a knot tie in my throat. it hurts—and I felt like tearing up now.

“It skipped my mind. I guess we have to party our day out tomorrow.” He grinned ruefully.

“To bust your bubbles, we will be having our party here alone, with no outsiders. Yeah.” I revealed and he nodded carefully. He wouldn’t want to upset me more, I guess.

I shifted my weight on his body, feeling the burning flames due to the results of his hands roaming my back skin. I muffled back a moan, closing my eyelids.

A loud bang came on the door, forcing me to retreat from his body. “Who is that?” Peter asked in a low voice.

“I have no idea.”

“And it can’t be Sarah, because she has a spare key with her.” I added.

Peter stood up and headed for the door as the man he is. I only sat on the couch waiting for his return, it might be the dorm guard checking if everything is fine.

“Babe, a man is here claiming your father sent him to get you.” He shouted from the door. My heart sunk to the floor as my tummy churned with fear.

Peter returned with the man which I instantly recognized to be my father’s best man. An unyielding man he is, which makes him the perfect man to do all my father’s dirty works.

“Master had summoned for your presence. You are expected to be back home by dinner.” The man informed, giving me no room to argue—I was never going to either way.

“I will be waiting outside. You have only ten minutes to be ready and see this young man out.” He added, glaring at Peter before he made his way out of our dorm.

I shared a look with Peter. Without uttering a word, I left for my room. The more I waste time, the more reprimand I’d get for wasting his time.

I returned with a small traveling bag. “I am sorry our day has to end this way. I have to go or else…” I stopped, offering him an apologetic look.

“Don’t worry. I clearly understand the situation you are in. Let’s go.”

If he is to really understand the situation I am in, the everyday problem my life is facing then he would either run away from me or sympathize with me.

I met my father’s best man waiting for me in the car which was assigned to me. I never took my liking to it. “We are good to go.” He told the driver without looking back.

Those were the days he would offer me a smile but now, people change for the good or bad reason.
