CHAPTER 117

It happened so quick before they knew it. Up until now, it was hard for Rosette to process how they end up that way. She never imagine this day would come. After what happened to them in the past, she was hopeless. It was like a dream that is impossible to achieve. Yet here she is, with the man she truly loves.

“Huh…” she whispered.

Staring at the engagement ring gracing her finger, memories of the one he had given her five years ago flooded her mind. There was a time when they were engaged, caught up in a promise of forever. However, life took an unexpected turn, leading them down separate paths that stretched into what felt like an eternity.

Circumstances, like the hands of fate, intervened, whispering that the time wasn't right back then. Neither of them was ready to shoulder the weight of such a commitment. Rosette, haunted by past traumas and entangled in the complexities of her family relationships, stood at a crossroads where another responsibility seemed like an unbearable burden.

Maybe, just maybe, fate had been wise in keeping them apart during those years. It was a period of growth, healing, and self-discovery, a time that would eventually pave the way for a reunion under different circumstances. Now, as she gazed at the new ring on her finger, a symbol of their second chance, it carried not only the promise of love but also the lessons learned during the years they spent apart.

Maybe everything happened for a reason.

Losing a child back then helped her discover more about herself. Choosing to part ways with Khein gave her the chance to mend relationships with her parents and siblings. Postponing marriage allowed her to concentrate on reaching her goals. In simple words, life guided her in a different direction.

Every challenge and detour, though tough, contributed to making her the person she is now. Looking back on the journey, she noticed that obstacles often opened doors to unforeseen opportunities and personal development. Life's ups and downs painted a vibrant picture, showcasing newfound strength and purpose.

But there she was, snuggled in his arms, a place that oddly felt like home. The road to this moment was a rollercoaster, marked by a five-year gap brimming with unanswered questions and untold tales.

As he spilled the beans about his absence, each revelation brought a fresh wave of understanding. Throughout those years, he faced challenges that pushed the boundaries of his determination. The reasons behind his vanishing act were as intricate as the mix of emotions now flooding them. This wasn't just a disappearance; he grappled with his own demons, persuaded her father to orchestrate a reunion, weathered a downfall that left him with nothing, only to bounce back and rediscover the way leading back to her.

The fragments of their past fell into place, creating a mosaic of trials, sacrifices, and an unwavering pursuit of a connection that refused to fade. With every word, she not only decoded the past but also witnessed the changes he underwent for the sake of their future. The journey bore its scars, but in the arms of the man who weathered the storm to be with her, she found a satisfaction that surpassed the turbulent years they spent apart.

"The lunch is ready," Khein's voice interrupted her thoughts, pulling her back from the depths of contemplation. She found herself standing on the balcony once again, the engagement ring clasped in her hand, its presence a silent echo of countless thoughts swirling in her mind.

She turned around, the warmth of the kitchen lights accentuating the glow in her eyes as she flashed a playful smile at him. "I'm super hungry," she declared, the words carrying a mix of genuine hunger and a hint of teasing.

He chuckled, the sound echoing in the cozy kitchen. "I know. You keep complaining about that an hour after we had breakfast."

Her lips pouted in a playful manner as she walked over to him, a subtle sway in her step. "What can I do? Your cooking skills are exceptionally good."

He rolled his eyes with a mock sigh, suppressing a smile. "Then, I'll cook for you every day for the rest of my life."

A soft blush tinted her cheeks as she bit her lip, reacting to his cheesy remark. "You're way too cheesy. Let's go."

His laughter, warm and comforting, resonated through the house as he trotted right behind her. The kitchen welcomed them with the aroma of freshly cooked food. Rosette gracefully settled on a barstool, the soft glow highlighting the contours of her face, while Khein skillfully arranged the meal on the counter table.

He had taken extra care to prepare her favorite dish, hoping the flavors would bring joy to her taste buds. Concerned about her earlier complaints of hunger, he had also whipped up a snack while simultaneously getting lunch ready, ensuring there was an abundance to satiate her appetite.

As Rosette took the first bite, anticipation lingered in the air. However, to Khein's surprise, her reaction wasn't what he expected. Instead of savoring the flavors, she hurriedly rushed to the sink, the porcelain echoing with the sound of her spitting out the food.

He blinked in confusion, worry etching his features. "Baby?"

"Oh, my God, Khein!" she exclaimed, her anger evident in her eyes as she looked at him. The taste of the food had left her thoroughly disgusted, making it the most unpleasant culinary experience of her entire life. "What the heck was that?"

"H-Huh?" he uttered, bewildered. Grabbing a clean spoon, he scooped a bit of the food and tasted it himself.

Nothing seemed wrong.

He furrowed his brows. "What's the problem?"

However, her grimace only intensified as she watched him eat. "Are you trying to poison me or something?! Why does it taste like that?!"

Confused, Khein tried to defend himself. "What do you mean? I cooked it just the way you like it."

"Why...? I find nothing wrong—"

She shot him a glare. "Are you telling me that I'm lying?"

"No, that's not—"

"I can't believe you!" Her eyes welled up with tears as she turned away, walking off. Not only was she hungry, but now he was accusing her of lying. "God..." she muttered, halting suddenly, her head spinning with frustration.

"Rosette!"

Before she could hit the ground, Khein swiftly caught her, releasing a sigh of relief. "Khein..."
