Chapter 45: Vanity

"You okay, baby?" Khein asked after he noticed I stopped walking at all. My heart was beating so hard in my chest. It was so loud that it was making me deaf. My ears were bleeding due to the loudness of my own heartbeat. It feels like I've just seen a ghost. Indeed, I am. Because I have already buried the image of my family through the back of my head, especially the ones that caused me traumas.

I jolted. Khein suddenly held me on my arm which made me jump through shock.

Gazing at him, I was confronted by the worried look on his face. Only then I realized I was shaking and probably so pale right now.

"What's going on? Are you okay?" he asked.

I opened my mouth to speak but no words came out. My throat was clogged with what seems like words that cannot be spoken. I don't know. I was starting to feel numb.

"Hey, baby. Look at me," Khein said as he cupped my face very gently. The warmth of his palms touches my face, letting me feel that it's not only me now. I have someone in my life.
