Chapter 5

Kiara’s Pov

Once I was done speaking, the stupid tears were streaming down the sides of my face, but I was quick to wipe them off with the blanket.

To say Xavier was furious after I was done, was a pretty big understatement. His grip loosened from my chin once I was done, and he let out a furious curse as he pulled off the bed and walked off to the other side of the room to stand there while raking his fingers through his hair.

I wished I could disappear from the face of the earth right now.

Xavier was definitely angry at me, but it wasn’t like I could do a thing about it back then and refused to. He’s definitely angry because he wouldn’t be the first person to touch my body, typical mafia lord.

My mouth twisted in disgusts and I curled up on myself some more, hating life and everything that comes with it.

I could remember when I had told my mum about it. She hadn’t believed me and had instantly dismissed me, which had stung real bad back then.

At least Xavier looked like he do believe me, even though he was still very furious.

I wasn’t sure if he’d still be interested in consummating the marriage now that he knew that some other people had touched me.

I jolted on noticing movements at the end of the bedroom, and noticed Xavier leaving the bedroom. He shut the room gently behind him and I instantly exhaled.

Xavier never returned throughout the rest of the night. In as much as I felt relived that he hadn’t attempted to sleep with me again, I was worried that he was going to send me back home to my father – and ask for my brother’s life back.

I bathed and accended the stairs, spotting Xavier beside the bar, a glass of scotch in his hand as he said something on the phone. He spotted me instantly and ended the call, and I hesitantly stopped a few feet away from him.

“I’m sorry about last night.” I whispered without meeting his gaze as a wave of mortification engulfed me.

“What are you sorry for?” His voice was less angry than it was last night, but it was still angry.

“Uh… for the failed consummation of the wedding last night… for me not being pure anymore which made you more angry, for…”

“Wait… I wasn’t angry at you for not being ‘pure’, what even is that?” He demanded and I gulped, feeling like I had said something wrong.

He inched towards me and I took a couple of steps back.

“Also, who the hell said you should be sorry?” He demanded furiously and I gulped.

“Because… it w-was my fault.” I whispered and winced on realizing that my response only made him angrier.

“It wasn’t your fault, Kiara.” He said, voice angry and I nodded my head instantly.

“You’re a victim, and the people to blame are the people who did that to you when you were young, who touched you against your will.” He continued and I swallowed emptily.

He grasped my chin after that, and then he proceeded to explain how I shouldn’t feel ashamed over what happened to me in the past because none of it was your fault, and how I shouldn’t ever feel sorry for it.

“Do you understand?” He asked once he was done and I nodded my head numbly, as his words sank into my head.

A weird feeling bubbled in my chest after that, and I wasn’t sure of what to make of that.

———

When Xavier ordered me to get into the car hours later and informed me that we were heading to my father’s house, my heart had instantly began to pound.

If he was taking me back to my father, then my life was completely doomed. He was definitely going to beat me to a pulp for all what I pulled at the wedding ceremony yesterday.

When we pulled up at my father’s house, my entire body was nerve wracked. I shakily stepped out of the car as soon as the driver pulled the door open.

The dark gown I had on was knee length and flared, it managed to hide my wobbling knees. I stood beside Xavier as I watched as someone else pulled up, he came forth to stand beside Xavier and I instantly recognized him from the wedding yesterday, and they had both spoken a lot at the event.

I watched with held breath as Xavier’s guards barged into my father’s compound and dragged out my driver, and one of my bodyguards – the two people whom I had spoken to Xavier about last night and given them names as well, to my utmost shock.

Dad emerged from the house as well, looking surprised and perplexed, and I watched as shock colored his face when his gaze landed on Xavier and then myself. More of dad’s guards poured out of the house, and I noticed Micah in their midst. A quick glance around and I was taken aback to see that some people from the neighboring houses were outside as well, staring at the scene unfolding exactly before Xavier and I.

Seeing as today was a Sunday, everyone were at home and that was why there were so many onlookers right now.

Xavier walked towards Dad and I watched as Dad gulped, sweating nervously but trying to play it off. I watched as Xavier leaned down towards father as he spoke.

“Did you know those two men who are supposed to be watching over your daughter… touched her in way they were not supposed to?” Xavier’s voice as angry as he spoke and a low murmur went through the crowd that had now gathered. I lowered my head as heat flamed cheeks, just as I spotted my mother and sister watching as well.

Xavier gripped my dad’s shirt and shook him when he remained silent, and never have I felt such intense fulfillment like I felt in that moment.

Things escalated after that.

Xavier’s men beat the two men who had haunted my dreams and memories so much until they confessed and pleaded for mercy, and I had no idea that this was the closure I had wanted unknowingly all these while.

Xavier pulled out his gun after that, and then he motioned me over. My heart was in my throat as I walked towards him, ignoring the hundreds of eyes I could feel on me right now.

Luca asked me how old I was when the two men assaulted me, and how many times it happened. He added those numbers together, leaving it ‘twelve’ and ‘fifteen’.

“Let this be a public warning to every other man stupid enough to assault a woman or a little child the way these two scums had done.” Xavier said loudly as his gaze raked the crowd for a moment.

Xavier pulled me toward him and positioned himself behind me. He ordered for little children to be taken out of the scene, and then with my heart thumping hard, he wrapped my hand around his gun, and then he tangled his over mine.

My heart was racing and my body was trembling, and as Xavier pulled each trigger over my fingers, I flinched and jolted at the force of which each bullet flew out of the barrel of the gun– but I made sure to keep my eyes open, in order to watch as the monsters of my childhood died before me.

Xavier didn’t stop pulling on the trigger until each agreed number of bullets had gone through both men. The entire crowd was silent once Xavier was done. My entire body was trembling and I might have fallen over if Xavier hadn’t still remained behind me.

Xavier remained behind me, his large arms still caging me against his chest, probably because he could still feel the tremors wracking through my entire body.

After a little while, Xavier led me to the car and helped me into it. I exhaled deeply now that I was alone again. All what had happened minutes ago, someone still felt unreal, but a single glance outside was proof that it had indeed happened.

I averted my gaze in nausea, staring down at my fingers.

I wasn’t sure of how Xavier and I were going to move on from now.

One thing I was very certain of, was that I was definitely already looking at Xavier– my new husband, through an entirely different light.
