42 The Provocation

It took some minutes before the ominous silence penetrated into my brain and I dropped my hands from my face to raise my head slowly up to peek at him.

What I saw on the man’s face chilled me from head to toe. I had never seen so much furious coldness on a man’s face before.

He continued glaring at me for a long time and judging from the little but noticeable pulse that was ticking timely at his jaw, I knew it was to get his emotions back under control. I was transfixed. Never have I seen a man fight for control before.

“I don’t hit women, you idiot.” He finally clarified and this part was volunteered more as a curse than an assurance.

And before I could react to either his assertions or insults, the man turned on his heels and just as abruptly as he appeared at my door, he was gone at the same moment.

It was a long time before I could stop the trembling in my body and to release the pent up breath I did not know I was holding since.
