Emma watched the ripples created by the pebbles, thrown in the lake by her. She absentmindedly stared into the depths of the lake.

"What's the matter?" Eric asked, concerned. "You haven't spoken much since you got here."

Emma turned to look at him. They were both sitting next to each other on the floor, by the lake.

"Why don't we all get to have happy endings? Why do some people have to suffer and not find the happiness they deserve?"

"Maybe because sometimes happy endings are just an illusion."

"I don't like how she is these days. She has lost her smile and all the things that make her, her. I miss my sister and I feel helpless because I don't know what to do."

Eric didn't know what to say or how to even console her. He wished he knew the right words to say or could help her not feel how she was feeling anymore.

"All she ever wanted was to go to fashion school, be one of the best designers there are and live her best life yet. But now, I can't even help her with any of it."
