Typically it would take Dad and I about ten hours to get to my Grandmothers when we drove. That was back when we could take the highways and there was no traffic. Now we had to avoid most major streets. Not only were they filled with stopped vehicles and dead bodies, we would be sitting ducks for any Vampires out hunting if we went that way even if we could get through. Which we couldn't.

We were forced to rely on back roads and forgotten trails for this trip. As we poured over the maps in the last few weeks we realized that we would be luck to reach our destination within a week. It would probably take ten days instead of ten hours.

The first day went better than expected. Luckily we knew what roads and streets were clear enough for us to get through and we ended up camping at the spot we originally though we were planning on stopping at the second night. Sadly that's when our luck ran out.
