Chapter 2 - The Break up

TWO YEARS EARLIER

Avery POV

“How could you do this to me?” I ask Fred as he sits in front of me, not shedding a tear.

“I am not doing anything to you, Avery, and this is why I can’t be with you anymore; everything is about you”, he says, and I shake my head as a tear spills down my cheek.

“You cheated on me, Fred, and you are the problem, not me”, I let out as I feel like I can’t breathe while he looks at me unfazed.

“I loved you, Fred”, I let out, and he laughed.

“I don’t love you. How could I? You’ve let yourself go. You don’t make an effort anymore”, he says, and I can’t help but feel my heart shattering into a thousand pieces, “At least Bella still knows how to please me”, he says, and I slap him across the face. My hand starts burning at the contact, and he stands up, holding me by my throat and pushing me against the wall.

“You are so ridiculous. Look at you”, he says, spitting in my face. As his hand falls, I cough, trying to get some air into my lungs, and I fall on my knees. Fred walks out of the room, leaving me on the floor crying and coughing for air.

Bella was my best friend, I’ve always known she had a fling for Fred, but I never thought she would ever act on it. She was always shy about boys and kept herself away from them, but lately, she changed and seduced him.

I don’t blame her entirely for what happened. It takes two to tango, and Fred allowed her to seduce him, and he chose her over me. After years together, he thinks I let myself go. I am not going to lie, I don’t wear as much makeup as I sued to, and I don’t dress up as much. I put on some weight but not enough to make a lot of difference, but apparently, it was enough to make Fred hate my body and feel ashamed to be seen with me.

I have always been confident about my curvy figure, and that will never change. I thought I didn’t have to make an effort anymore as I already had the person I loved next to me. But boy, how wrong I was.

I sit on the bed, grabbing my phone and messaging Eliana, she is one of my best friends, and I always said she is on my crazy side. We complement each other. She is the rebel, the flashy one, while I am the most responsible. Once I tell her what Bella did, she starts cursing under her breath and decides that I will mourn my relationship. She tells me she will be bringing some ice cream and alcohol over while we watch some chick flicks on Netflix. I can’t help but smile at how good of a friend she is.

A couple of hours later, she walks into my room and gives me a big hug while I cry on her shoulder. Eliana opens the bottle of wine and passes it to me, we skip the glasses, and we drink from the bottle as she opens two pints of ice cream and hands one to me.

After a couple of films and pints of ice cream, I fall asleep as she strokes my hair; not long after, I wake up to Eliana shouting at someone.

“How could you be such a bitch?” I hear her shouting, and I run out of the room to find Bella standing in front of Eliana with her arms crossed in front of her chest.

“I didn’t mean to hurt her”, Bella says, and Eliana tells her to fuck off, to pack her bags and leave the fuck out of my house. I stand still, resting my shoulder against the door frame as I see Bella walking in my direction.

“You can’t do this Avery, I don’t have where to go”, she pleas and I shrug my shoulders.

“You should’ve thought about that before banging my boyfriend”, I let out, and Eliana nodded her head.

“Why are you being such a bitch?”, Bella asks and Eliana grabs her by the arm, pulling her into her room and slamming the door behind her.

“Pack your shit and get out. You better be gone before we come back”, Eliana shouts and walks to me, pulling me into my room.

“We’re going out”, she says, and I blink my eyes a couple of times, trying to process what she just said.

“What? I don’t feel like going out. I just want to stay in bed”, I let out, and Eliana shook her head.

“Nope, my sister is going to a party today, and we are crashing that party”, Eliana says, and I shake my head.

“I’m not in the mood for parties”, I let out.

“Tough, get dressed”, she says, throwing my little black dress at me as she pulls my black doc Martens out of my shoe wrack.

“Get ready”, she says as she pulls a red dress out of my dresser for her. I shrug my shoulders and walk into the bathroom to get myself ready. Once I am done, Eliana does my make-up. She opts for a heavy black eyeliner and red lipstick. This dress leaves nothing to the imagination, but I guess she is right. We both leave the house as soon as her sister tells her where the party is. It is at one of the most famous nightclubs in New York, and we would never be able to get in if we were not invited to the party. It is such an exclusive clientele that it’s almost a dream to go there.

As we arrive, we give our names to the bouncer that allow us to get in straight away without even asking for our ID. I am twenty-six but I get asked for my ID all the time. I smile as we get into the club. I am hit by the smell of sweat and alcohol straight away.

“Come on, they are in the VIP area”, Eliana says, and we walk towards the cord of bouncers, and we give our names, and they allow us to pass the double doors. Eliana pulls me towards her sister and her friends.

“Hey”, Eliana says as we approach them.

‘Hey sis, this is Amber, the birthday girl”, Eliana’s sister says, and we both congratulate her before walking to the bar grabbing our free drinks. I am liking this party.
