A week after my birthday and the cremation of my father's body, I sat beside the river, dipping my legs into the fresh, clean water. As promised, he had gotten me a Fiat 500 green car that was sizeable for me. As I enjoyed the feeling of the warm water on my feet, my mind drifted to my father. I hadn't attended his cremation, and I felt good about it. I had let go, and for the first time in a long time, I felt free. I felt like I was finally surrounded by people who actually cared, without secrets or hidden motives.
