The streetlights outside came on combatting the darkness that was seeping into the room despite the candles, and it was odd to see them in normal colors, rather than augmented by magic, Aislen thought as she let Talen draw her back from the bed. He pulled an armchair from where it had been tucked into a corner of the wall and poured her a glass of wine when he poured himself one.

She took it hesitantly. “I’m not really supposed to,” she said. “It’s sort of rule number one of pregnancy – do not drink.”

“I am aware,” he turned the wine bottle to reveal the label. “This wine has been de-alcoholised. It is a little sweet for my palate, however I thought that we could drink this together whilst the Triquetra mark each other.” He sat on the armchair and drew her down onto his lap.
