Phillip Salem held up a hand to Charlie Gale, commanding him to silence. Charlie sneered but said nothing as Phillip stepped out of the meeting room – a sign, Aislen thought with interest, of the shifting hierarchy within the pack?

“I will take you to your mates,” Phillip gestured with his hand as if intending to rest it on her back, but she stepped away, avoiding his touch. “How are you, Sigrid?” He inclined his head politely to the vampiress.

“Good, thank you, Phillip,” Sigrid’s sweetness was tinged with danger. “How is Abigail after her unfortunate experience?”

Phillip did a good job of smothering his grimace, but it was there. “She is recovering.” He led the way away from the curious eyes of the werewolves working. They approached two doors, one turning to the left, whilst the other led directly forwards.
