CHAPTER 29

Chief Rodriguez sat at his desk, staring at the report in front of him with a heavy heart. His brow furrowed as he read through the details of George Roland's escape from custody. He clenched his jaw, feeling a mix of frustration and disappointment welling up inside him.

Detective Harris, noticing the chief's sombre expression, approached cautiously. "Chief, I'm sorry. We did everything we could to keep Roland locked up, but he managed to slip through our fingers."

Rodriguez sighed heavily, running a hand through his greying hair.

"I know you all worked hard on this case, but it's not enough. Roland is dangerous, and now he's out there again, posing a threat to the community."

Harris nodded sympathetically. "We'll redouble our efforts to track him down, Chief. We won't rest until he's back behind bars."

The chief nodded, but the weight of disappointment still hung heavy in his chest.

"I appreciate that, Detective. But it doesn't change the fact that we failed to keep him contained.
