Laid Off

I hadn't slept well last night….as a matter of fact I hadn't slept at all. Green eyes had tormented me with the words 'get it up' ringing through my ears all night.

That was the reason for my being frosty and unreceptive throughout today.

I read out from my note, absentmindedly instructing the students on how to debug a computer.

I was tired and bummed out but I consoled myself with the fact that there were only three minutes remaining.

Then I was free for the rest of the day. I held in my sigh and continued ratting off from the textbook.

As a junior teacher, my position never required much work.

Most times my position barely saw the inside of a classroom and on the occasion that it did, it was because the main teacher was not around. My position was mainly a backup or a fill in. Or at least, that's what it was supposed to be.

However, in my case I did almost everything.

Fuck it, I did everything. The lazy ass if a main teacher found ways to throw off his responsibilities to me at every opening.

I was damn sick of it, so I had placed an anonymous message to the teacher body. I was tired of being overworked and underpaid and used like I was his slave.

The bell rang and I paused my monotonous and boring reading as the students became excited.

"Don't forget to work on your codes and turn them in by the morning".

There was a low hum of grumblings as I walked out of the class, feeling another headache coming on.

The staff room was empty as I slid into my miniature desk. I turned on my computer and the tab of the local university website flashed up.

Fuck, that was true. I had been in the process of applying when I had been ordered to go and handle the class.

I squinted at the questions. Describe yourself, Why do you want to study at our establishment?

My head wasn't in the mental space to finish it so I closed the tab and began packing up.

Voices drifted outside the room and the door to the staff room opened.

I lifted my head as my senior lecturer sneered at me. The teachers began to troop inside after him and I wondered how long they had been there.

"Miss Carmichael", Sir Max sneered. Yes he insisted on me calling him that. Ordered more of.

"The HOA' s office", he said glibly and walked out.

Hurriedly, I packed my things and rushed out after him, the murmurs following me out of the office.

The HOA was the head of academics, a burly old man with an appetite as wide as his stomach.

I wondered what this was going to be about.

This was the third time I was being summoned to his office and the ninth hadn't reached its half mark yet.

The chill December air froze the hair in my body as we walked along the path to the main office holders building.

The building housed the offices of the major positions of the school.

I doubted the HOA was going to be glad to see me this time around.

Well, giving as the last time I had told him his weight was proportional to the downfall of Fangs Academy.

Truth be told, the school wasn't what it used to be before.

It had been six months since my selection and I could say it had changed for the worst.

Drastically.

Nothing was as it was...and then they had frosted the doom cake with incepting human teachers into the school and putting them in top positions like the HOA.

Fucking downfall.

But who was I to say shit?

I smiled at Mary, the beautiful and happily mated vampire receptionist, my eyes communicating with hers to see how deeply fucked I was.

The subtle shake of her head told me all there was to know. And that was that Mary had no idea what was about to go down.

Shit.

My mother had always warned me about my mouth getting me in trouble. And now here I was.

Sir Max knocked solemnly on the door marked Richard Drebeille~HOA and my palms became clammy.

What if I had pushed my luck too far this time?

There was a subtle 'come in' from the other side of the door and I caught Sir Max's smirk and the flash of his fangs as he opened the door for me.

I walked in clenching my fists against my sides. I could tell from the ominosity in the air that I had really fucked up big time.

You've done it this time Sash, I chided myself as I came eye-to-eye with Mr. Drebeille.

"Miss Carmichael", he said, his eyes flashing with bridled anger.

"Sir", I responded after gulping down a truckload of nerves.

His office was immaculate as ever, the usual files and paperwork neatly arranged on his desk.

The middle of his head was bald like tomato skin and his spectacles were perched firmly on his nose.

His eyebrows were furrowed and he was not smiling.

In an attempt to quell the tension, I decided to smile. "My what a lovely time to witness in the year"

He looked at me like I had grown three heads. I hadn't yet but desperate times called for desperate measures. "Did you enjoy your Thanksgiving?"

"I didn't. It was a sour day with just me and the skinned and well roasted turkey". "At least, one of us enjoyed the meal", I chuckled nervously.

Please open up and swallow me now, I begged the earth.

"Do you know why you're here, Miss Carmichael?" Mr. Drebeille finally spoke.

I shook my head rapidly in response, "Did I tell you, you have such lovely skin today Mr. Drebeille"

"New soap?"

"Yes", the burly man indulged me as he leaned back into his chair, the old stud creaking in the process. "It's called the soap of retaining my job".

"Something you so obviously don't have".

The comment hit my brain one word at a time as my mouth dropped in horror and my eyes widened in shock. "You can't possibly be serious".

The words flew out of my mouth before I could stop it and I watched Mr. Drebeille's face go red with anger.

Fucking hell, I needed a filter.

"I'm very serious. You're out with effect from tomorrow".

My rage grew full fledged as I heard the snicker of my senior teacher behind me.

Oh hell no.

"With all due respect", I said with gritted teeth.

"Fuck you and this school". I whirled around and faced the scum of a vampire who had the gull to laugh.

I wondered how scums like this were compared to the ethereal creatures like the one I had seen yesterday.

"Good luck actually doing your job", I was about stalking out when my temper decided it hadn't had its say yet.

"You know what? This school has become a shadow of what it once was because of scumbags like you old farts."

"I mean who in the hell puts a human in the top position of a vampire academy?" "Like tell me you have connections without telling me you have connections".

"I'm glad I'm out, so you can both suck each other's dick and go to hell in a hand basket"

With that, I stalked off, slamming the door behind me and rattling the walls.

Mary's wide eyes greeted me as I entered the receptionist again. I smiled and walked out of the building, not surprised.

She was a vampire of course she had heard everything.

The reality of the situation hit me as I got home and baked away all the anger from my veins.

Shit. I was without a job.

I was chewing numbly on my nails when my ringing tone blasted through the house.

I picked up the call, forgetting to check the caller ID out of the anxiety that was eating at me.

"I know what you are", a chilly voice sounded in my ear and my body froze in horror.

It was my stalker.
