Chapter 25

Audrey's POV

"Where are you taking me?" I asked again, I've seen him angry before, but I haven't seen him this upset.

His eyes were bloodshot and he was sweating profusely.

I can hear his breath coming in ragged gasps, like an animal caught in the trap of its prey. He had one hand wrapped around my upper arm, as though it might stop me from getting away from him if I decided to run, which seemed very possible with the way that I could feel his grip on my arm.

"Just calm down," he said quietly.

"Please." His voice sounded so broken, I couldn't believe that I hadn't even noticed the sound of it before. It was more than just the way that he was speaking; he sounded so lost.

It's what made me hesitate, made me pause for a second longer when I tried to wriggle out of his grip. "Please just let me go."

He tightened his grip slightly and I yelped at the sudden pain that shot through my arm. I was going to scream, but I bit down hard on my lip instead.

"Just listen to me." He snapped.
