Chapter 40

-Audrey POV-

It was hard work bringing myself together. The hairs on my body stood up, waiting for the outcome of whatever Kaden had gone to do.

I instinctively wrapped my hands around my neck and winced when I felt like I was reliving the moment that hideous man had wrapped his hands around my neck.

I shuddered.

The room was stuffy; even though the windows were open, it still felt like I was being choked up.

I was about to commence prancing about the room when I suddenly heard the door click open and king Kaden trudged in tiredly into the room.

My heart immediately sank when I took notice of the grim expression on his face and I couldn’t help but think that there was something probably bugging him.

“Hey.” I said softly, and as soon as he heard me speak, he looked up and flashed me a small smile.
