Genevieve's POV:
"Can you try to enjoy today?" Putting the car in park once they pulled into the school parking lot.
"Well, I'll try, but I can't make any promises." Offered up a fake smile she reached over and grabbed her stuff from the back seat, kissing Seth in the process.
"Come on, love birds, we're jealous enough" Alyssa Rose, her best friend since middle school, screamed through the open door from the end of the parking lot.
"Hi, Al," Seth shook his head as Genevieve climbed out of the car.
" See you after, okay? Remember, I'm driving." Jokingly scrunched up her face and pointed at him through the window as she closed the door.
"Promise, I won't forget," he always had the best smile. Sadly, watching as he drove away, she went to join her friends on the sidewalk.
"Happy birthday," Alyssa said handing her a gift bag. "Hope you like, made by myself, obviously."
With a sigh, she walked over to the picnic tables and put her stuff down, looking into the bag. Inside was a gorgeous black and red silk dress. Alyssa was gifted at making clothing.
"Oh my gosh, AI, you didn't have to make this," carefully placing the dress into the bag and hugging the girl.
"Hey, I figured you would need something I designed to wear. Plus, I haven't made you anything"
"True. Thank you so much"
Once they headed towards the doors, Genevieve prepared herself to be pelted with happy birthdays and hugs. To keep her promise, she was going to try to enjoy today.
"Gen" Oliver Blackwood, her cousin, called from behind her as she reached her locker. "Do you want me to hold some of those books for you?"
"Yes, thank you, I was getting ready to drop them," handing him the stack of books in order to open the door.
"Why don't you put them in your bag like a normal person?"
"Almost all of my stuff had to come home with me over the weekend to finish projects and research papers. A hundred percent would rather drop a few textbooks than my entire AP English binder. "
"That thing is the size of all three of these together, so I don't blame you. Sounds like a nightmare if you had to put everything back together."
Nodded to him as she pulled out the binder, holding it up in comparison to the books in his hands.
"Oh, imagine that, it's actually bigger" placing the heavy workload in her locker with over half of the contents from her bag.
"So, Mr. Warner asked me to ask if you will help carry the AP European history books to his classroom from the storage room" Oliver stated as she took the books from his hands.
"Sure, can you help me?" Eyes full of hope, shoving her jacket into her locker, slamming the door shut.
"Hmm... no you're on your own," turning around, starting to walk away
"Are you serious?"
"No, I'm not mean, I was kidding." Relieved laughter escaped her lips as they began walking down the hall to the storage room.
"Scared me, don't do that"
"Well, better than 'happy birthday' right?" Poked at her, mockingly as he picked up some textbooks from the table in the corner Mr. Warner had stored the books the previous year.
"Wish people would forget about my birthday," Genevieve said as she too began to pick up some books. "Thanks for helping me though."
Halfway across the room, she felt odd, growing light-headed as her vision blurred and the room began to spin. A pressure built on her shoulders as if something was pushing down on her.
"Need you to fight this Genevieve," a soft voice rang in her ears.
Where was the voice coming from? The room was fuzzy and hearing the voice saying the same thing over and over. A voice she recognized only from a dream. All of her thoughts trailed off as she succumbed to the darkness closing in around her vision.

Saber's POV:
They walked towards the office of their new school to grab their schedules, trying to rid of some anger they had acquired over the last past month.
Saber was leading the perfect life in California. Fun car, fantastic school, perfect job, incredible girlfriend, amazing friends. Now he had none of that and things had to be new, and all at once on his eighteenth birthday. How much can you be excited forward to being legal now?
The first day of school here, and so far, the only thing going his way was his lack of jet lag from the plane ride this morning. Wasn't going to pretend he was looking forward to his first day. Opened the door to the office to get things over with. End of the school year, he was going back to California.
"Hello, you three must be Saber Collins, Theodore Grey, and Davina Miller," the receptionist looking up as they walked through the door.
"How can you tell?" Slightly surprised she knew who they were so easily
"I'm aware who most of the kids are at the school, kind of a small school."
"Need our schedules," Theo, not changing his 'I hate life' attitude, interrupted. "My name's Theo."
"Here you go," side-eyeing the grumpy teenager, she handed them each a folder from across the desk.
"Do you want someone to show you where your classes are, or can you find them yourselves?"
"Oh, we can find them on our own, thanks," Saber politely told the woman, trying to offset Theo's mood. None of the situation was her fault. This was going to be a long day.
"Guess I'll catch you later," mumbling as he walked off in the opposite direction of the pair.
"Yeah," Theo answered. "Find you guys at lunch."
"Bye," Davina was the only one excited about anything today had to offer.
As he made his way down the hall, he realized how much of a small school this must be because almost everyone he walked past glanced at him, knowing he was one of the new kids. Becoming more apparent they were already up to speed on their names. Appeared everyone's conversation was about them.
Figured two things out about the people at this school. None of them had anything better to do than talk about the new kids, and that some girl named Genevieve had the same birthday as him, today.
Can't let him find his first class without someone talking to him. Such a simple thing was still too much to ask.
"Are you Saber, or Theodore?" some guy came up beside him, reaching out to shake his hand.
"I'm Gregory, you can call me Greg," ignoring the guy and his outstretched arm, Saber kept looking at the numbers on each door they passed. Hoped the guy would catch the hint and leave, but yet again, didn't happen.
"Guess you don't talk much."
"Guess you don't shut up," Saber, finally finding his class, walked away.
"Okay, I guess I'll see you around."
Already tired of the people at this school. Don't they have anything better to do than to talk about him and his friends? All he wanted to do was make it through the day, so he could call Sara.
First class was History, judging by the posters on the wall. A few students scattered across the room talking amongst themselves.
"I'm Mr. Warner, and I'll be your AP History teacher," Mr. Warner said as Saber walked into the room. "You must be Saber Collins, am I correct?"
"Sadly, yes,"
"I understand you're not excited about being here, but I'm going to treat you like every other student in this classroom."
"Good, because I don't need a pity party from anyone. Where am I sitting?"
"Well, I don't exactly have a seating chart," Mr. Warner answered. "So, wherever your stuff drops, you can sit."
"Sounds fair to me," Saber threw his stuff in the closest empty seat.
He liked this teacher, had his suspicions most of the others did too, and probably was not going to be any problems in this class. Always liked history.
"Any chance of you pointing me in the direction of the restroom? Long ride from the airport."
"You came straight from the airport?"
"Wasn't going to go home. My parents made me abandon my life, again, to move, so I'm not up to spending the day with them."
"Makes sense," Mr. Warner replied with a shrug. The man obviously responded well to simple logic, so things would probably be easy in this class. "The restroom is down the hall, to the right."
"Thanks."
Alexander's POVAlexander Warner's eyes followed Saber as he walked down the hall toward the men's room. Glad he was here, although the boy would not like moving here. Not at first.Todaywas his eighteenth birthday, and he was soon going to travel down a long road. Would prefer him to figure things out sooner, rather than later, but Mr. Warner was not allowed to tell him.Not unless Saber asked him first.Eighteen years ago, he was told about the twins and to keep them secret. Also, anyone curious about them was to never find out the truth. Being revealed too early would put Saber and Genevieve in grave danger. The Sacred One told him what he had to do. Both must figure things out, and soon. The twins had no clue what was about to happen to them. Not allowed to tell them anything, except to be ready for yet another change. At this point, he was unsure if Saber would welcome this change. Although, he
Saber's POVMr. Warner's demeanor had completely changed in the few minutes he had been in the restroom. Eyes darting between the empty hallway and the text message he was quickly typing."Alright, the plan for today was to start the project presentations," groans came from several classmates as Saber found his way to his seat. "However, something important has been brought to my attention and needs to be taken care of. Consider this period a study hall."Cheering amongst the room almost covered up a knock at the door made by what appeared to be another teacher and a student. Whatever the student said made Mr. Warner appear more worried than he had started."Mrs. Garcia is going to be in here while I am gone," the two teachers whispered something before he turned back around and pointed at Davina. "Davina, Saber, I'm aware the two of you don't have any schoolwork to focus on yet. Grab your stuff and come with me, please."Giving Da
"Please excuse us, Susan," he said, looking back at the nurse."Yes, sir," she said, closing the door behind her."So, our young Mr. Saber has gone through the transition," Mr. Harvard commented in his long, deep, southern drawl. "I personally wanted Genevieve here to turn. A vampire king with a vampire daughter? Now that would be something different. All the children of any vampire king in history have always been a male, at least the ones who turned vampire were at least. Would be interesting to have a vampire princess. But considering her lineage, was obvious she would go her mother's way.""What do you mean?" Annoyed her principal was in on this charade."Your protectors here didn't tell you!?" he bellowed, eying their friends. "The four of you are supposed to be explaining all of this to them. No good to anyone kept in the dark.""Wouldn't need anything explained to them if they had been kept in the Alliance in the first place!" the leather cl
Saber's POV "Are either of you going to explain to me what all of this is about?" Saber questioned, his friends almost carrying him to his bedroom. "And what is happening to me right now?""All of this is about your real family," flopping down on the end of the bed, Theo hesitated, looking at Davina."You're kind of, um, a, ah, vampire."Genevieve's comment about fantasy creatures made more sense. Thought he had hallucinated. Took him a minute to realize the laughter was coming from himself."I'm what?""Your parents are fae." No smile or hints of deception ran across Davina's face as those words rang in his head."Your mother, Saoirse Fearmist was a witch and your father, Gavril Thorne, is a vampire. Vampire King, actually."An uncomfortable silence filled the room. Unsure how to respond, he looked back and forth between his friends until Theo attempted to continue explaining."Four years before you we
Alexander's POV "I don't understand all this fuss over missing a phone call" Principal Harvard dropped into his desk chair; slamming shut as Alexander went to close the blinds.Lies were something he was good at detecting. A power most of their lineage had was knowing when someone was lying or being deceitful. A powerful ability to have when you are responsible for the lives of so many people.Manifested differently in everyone though. In Malcolm Fearmist, his grandfather developed as a sense of smell. Told him once deceit smelled of vinegar and lies reeked of durian fruit. Relieved that never developed the same way for him. Instead, it made him nauseous; which was only slightly better. Frequently chewing on mints or gum to ease the sensation. One can hide things without lying. Took a skilled individual to maneuver around his abilities. The Sacred One was talented enough though he never understood why she would have to lie to any of them
"Yes. But you are already aware of this.""Why?""Everything she has worked so hard to hide is starting to slip through the cracks. Several millennia worth of lies crumbling down around her. Knowing how many people will be angry with her once they realize.""What lies? Realize what?""She didn't create the fae, at least not by herself. Actually, she probably created the least out of all of us and most of what she did doesn't exist anymore."Looking at him, she let out a sigh. Shock and confusion mixed on his face as her words sank in. Everyone listened to her word as law with the belief we owed her our existence. Believing her power was unmatched, and we would suffer without her. How much have we suffered with her? Saber and Genevieve were separated from their family, their people, for nothing?"Us?""Our brothers and sister. Moira, your sacred one, is my eldest sister. Six of us in total. Used to be more of our kind, still might be.
Genevieve's POVGenevieve wasn't sure how much of this was a dream anymore. The red-headed woman in the forest she can never reach has plagued her dreams as far back as she remembered. Yet here she was again. Arms waving, the long gray dress, the fog. Always the same no matter what she did. Until now. Someone else was here. A shadow in the fog she barely made out.Curiosity getting the better of her, she walked towards the shadow. Disappearing and reappearing somewhere else in the fog anytime she got close until something bumped into her. Whipping her head around, she came face to face with Saber. Was this really a dream? Fear crept up at the thought. Realizing if this weren't a dream, she no longer had a clue which direction lead them out of the fog.She always ran in a straight line through. Not chasing something around inside. A massive cliff hungclose toa thousand feet above the ocean to the right of
Seth's POVBy the time he left, it was after 10:30 pm. Being with her again was great, but his conscience was eating him alive since he still had to lie to her. Of course, he was aware of her adoption. But if he told her who he really was, he would never be allowed near her again, let alone hold her in his arms. If he told her he was working for the person responsible for her mother's death, the reason she had been put through all of this, she would never look at him the same.If he explained himself, he wasn't sure she would ever forgive him for not even using his real name. Then again, he wasn't supposed to love her.She had ascended. Plain to see just by looking at her. To everyone else, she looked the same, but being closer to her than anyone else, the subtle differences were unmistakable. Her eyes were darker than the normal Caribbean water blue. They were turning the deep, blue color of s
