Chapter 3

Veronica didn't know what to call the emotions she was feeling towards Beck at that moment. She was mad at him, she was sad about the things he said to her. She also wanted to go and help him with the pain, but at the same time, she just wanted him to suffer more pain than she was feeling.

Instead of using the front door, she went through the back door because of the other omegas that hadn't left for the Moon festival and Kiera.

“If they saw me like this, they would make me explain what had happened.” She thought to herself as she sneaked in through the back door.

She thought about it for a while and decided to go back into the woods. The pain of the mate bond was killing her, so she couldn't think well. She didn't want anyone to see her like that, so she ran into the nearest woods.

Not thinking straight, she kept running in whatever direction her legs took her. She didn't know for how long she was running until she came to a stop after hearing a growl coming from the woods.

At first, she thought it was just her stomach grumbling or something else until she heard it again.

“ Who's there?” She asked, scanning the woods with her eyes.

A rough-looking wolf with dark brown fur and brown eyes came into sight. “ What is a rogue wolf doing here?” She asked no one in particular.

Then another one with gray fur and dark eyes came out from the shadows with two more.

Then it occurred to her that she had gone into the part of the woods that was off limits. She saw the signs, but they weren't clear, “Fu*k! Is this how I am going to die here? No, I won't die here, not now and not by these rogue wolves,” She said to herself, with fear and determination.

She was about to turn around and run back to where she was coming from when the brown one charged at her. She immediately lowered her body, and it flew over her.

She tried to stand up immediately, but the pain from the broken mate bond held her down. “ Curse you, Beck,” She said with tears fighting to come out.

The one with gray fur and the two that were behind it came at her. She tried transforming into her wolf form, but she couldn't because of the rejection. She took cover in the nearest tree, which was an oak tree and climbed it.

“ What can I do? I'm surrounded by these ugly-looking things, and to top that, I can't transform into my wolf form. Geez! Moon goddess, please help me, what can I do?” She said, looking up at the clouds.

It was like the Moon goddess heard her silent prayers, because right at that moment, the cloud that was covering the full moon parted ways and the full moon began to shine on her.

She could feel her wolf receiving strength and clawing at her, trying to come out. She could still feel the pain of the rejection, but it was bearable.

“ Time to dance, boys,” She said, looking down at the rogue wolves with a smirk on her face.

She jumped some meters away from the tree and landed in her wolf form. The brown, and gray colored wolves came after her with their fur bristling and growls rumbling from deep within their chests. The barks and snarls of the other attackers reverberated through the dense undergrowth, adding to the eerie atmosphere of the forest.

Their eyes gleamed with primal fury as they lunged, their teeth and claws slashing through the moonlight shadows. Even though Veronica was outmatched in size, she fought with a fierce resolve, using the speed and agility the moon gave her to dodge their vicious attacks.

She was a bit surprised at why the other wolves didn't come after her. As she tried going to them, they ran backwards as if sensing something in her. Likewise, she turned her attention back to the two wolves, who looked like they weren't ready to give up.

The relentless pursuit of the rogue wolves finally turned in favor of Veronica and with a burst of desperate strength and cunning strategy, she managed to overcome the larger wolves, swiftly turning the tables on her attackers.

The tables turned, and her determination and refusal to surrender to fear fueled a newfound ferocity. With swift, agile movements, she lunged and nipped at the flanks of the larger wolves, surprising them with her tenacity and bravery. The intense chase continued through the twisting, shadowed paths of the woods, with Veronica refusing to yield ground for her survival.

Driven by survival instincts and a fierce will for her survival, she rebounded and boldly faced the rogue wolves. The once-aggressive wolves found themselves overcomed and annoyed by her. She was now empowered by a wave of intractable courage. With a definitive, thundering howl that echoed through the forest, she boldly chased the rogue wolves, leaving them to retreat in disarray and defeat.

She transformed back to her human form, and it felt like the pain of the rejection became worse. She managed to get to where her clothes were, but they were torn.

“What am I going to wear?” She asked out loud as she searched through whatever was left of her once-called clothes.

Everywhere was freezing and foggy. She managed to look up and saw the leather jacket she wore earlier hanging on the tree which she hid on, before jumping down.

“ Oh, thanks to the Moon goddess for this,” She said as she tried climbing the oak tree but fell on her butt almost halfway through.

She tried to climb a few more times, but it was the same. “How did I get up there in the first place? It's so freaking high.” She said, kicking the air.

She got up from the floor, to clean herself, and shivered from the unwanted wave of air that passed through her.

She jumped up with full force and got hold of one of the branches and thankfully, she managed to climb to the top where her jacket was. She got hold of it, "thank goodness that it's not torn too,” She said and wore it.

Thankfully the jacket got down to her thighs, covering it. “ How long have I been out here? I need to get home before Keira notices that I'm not home or at the festival and starts getting worried.” She said, realizing she had stayed out too long.

“ But speaking of going home, I can't remember the way back home. Damn! I think I'm lost." She said, as her eyes scanned through the woods, hoping to find a familiar path or something that could give her a hint of where she was to go.

Suddenly, she began to feel her head ache and at the same time, she felt dizzy, her vision became blurry and in just a few seconds, she fell and blacked out.
