Chapter 25

"Haven't you and Wregan talked about marriage yet?" Leonora asked full of curiosity while watching Carnation put icing on the cupcakes. She baked this because Carlgem requested homemade pastries. The oven rang so Carnation turned her back on her stepmother for a moment to pick up the cooked cookies.  She placed the baking pan on the rack and faced her stepmother again.

"We haven't discussed it yet, Tita; I'm not even sure if his proposal to me is sincere; Wregan hasn't even given me a ring." Carnation couldn't hide her disappointment. When Wregan proposed to her, they were in the midst of making love. She didn't know if it was a joke or not, she just said, "yes!"
