Being Ready

Finally, dusk came, and Rain, who had obviously been listening to their conversation over lunch brimmed with excitement, bouncing excitedly.

“Are we going to fight the bad guys tonight, Mama?" She chirped, her voice brimming with a child's innocent enthusiasm.

Oh, Rain… River laughed to herself. Her daughter was always getting ahead of herself. She wanted to fight the bad guys. Imagine!

She knelt before her, caressing her hair affectionately. "Not quite, sweetheart," she said gently. "There are still things we need to do before we're ready."

Disappointment clouded Rain's face for a brief moment before her resilience shone through. "Okay," she succumbed, her chin held high. "But can I come with you when you prepare? I can help!"

River chuckled, ruffling Rain's hair affectionately. "You've already been a big help today," she replied. "But tonight, you need to be a good girl and get a good night's sleep. Fighting bad guys takes a lot of energy, and we wouldn't want you to be tired in the
