RALPH "Lord Ralph, I was concerned about what you said to me earlier," Dr. Steve said once I got into his office. I sauntered in and flopped down on the only couch in his office. Dr. Steve's eyes remained on me as he resumed his seat by the desk. I rubbed my temple, not knowing where to start. I had to be subtle in my explanations; if not, he would find out who I was talking about. I needed to confide in someone. "Lord Ralph, please tell me about this deadly symptom you say you experience." I sat up. "Lately, I have been feeling like a fat man is sitting on my chest, but not in a very nice way." The doctor's brows furrowed as he took in what I had just said and tried to process it. "Do you find it difficult to breathe when this happens?" "No. This is not about physical pain or any pain of that sort. In fact, this is not pain. It does not affect my breathing or chest. It’s just... it’s just..." I stuttered off. "How often does this happen?"
RALPH "I will take her from here," I told the paramedics. "Lord Ralph, we need to take her to the hospital and do proper check-ups. The only injury may seem to be the gash on her head, but she could be bleeding internally." "I don't care," I snapped. I was afraid that if they took her to the hospital, they would run tests and might find out her blood was special. Why was I protecting this woman? I am not even sure she is the one. The paramedics exchanged looks, and one tried to speak, but the other tugged his arm, and he kept quiet. "I will have my doctor come see her at the castle." The paramedics nodded and scurried away. ~~~ A few minutes later, she was lying in my back seat, and we were driving to the castle. I sat in the front seat with the driver and kept staring at her to know if she would stir. I have never been this concerned for anyone before. I feared she would not wake up, even though the paramedics said she was unconscious and would co
JOVITA Pain. Excruciating pain rippled through me. Every joint and muscle in my body felt sore. I opened my eyes, but darkness engulfed me, and I wondered where I was. I tried to sit up, but the pain in my head sent me back to bed. The bed was so soft, and I wondered what I was doing lying in such a soft bed. I could not remember anything and doubted I even remembered my name. I sighed softly, not wanting to make any noise until my grace period was over and I found out where I was. Slowly, the event of the evening came back to me. I remembered Lord Ralph asking me to go with some vampires. I remember when the jeep came at our car, and the driver tried to control our vehicle and skidded into the bush and hit a tree. I must have hit my head; that explains this pain in my head. But I wondered if I was dead. Why was there pitch darkness and no noise? Was I in the grave because it was the only place that could be this quiet? A soft snore made me sit up, ignoring the an
RALPH After battling with the deadliest thoughts that night, I sat on a chair beside her as she slept peacefully. I was in trouble of losing my mind and myself. I never thought I would ever lust over a woman in my life. I made the rule to spite Landon; now, it was backfiring at me. I took a small knife from the cabinet and toyed with it while looking at her. The only way to get rid of this foolishness was to kill her, but even as I thought of that, I knew I could never kill her. She was everything I had learned to hate but also everything my soul desired. I sat there watching her with the knife and only a towel wrapped around my waist. I did not bother to wear clothes and did not even have the strength to search for something to wear. Sleep took over me in a few minutes, and I clapped my hands to turn off the light. I settled into a sleep filled with dreams of her. I do not know how long I slept before someone crashed into me. We both crashed to the ground, and
RALPH I woke up with the hardest erection I had ever had. I turned to lie on my side and caught a whiff of her scent. Gritting my teeth, I threw the blanket off me. I know exactly what to do. I have been playing around for so long. This was the time to set things right and teach everyone who the boss was around here. I would not let those desires for Jovita control me again. For fuck's sake, I have been here for centuries and should know how to control all these pathetic feelings. I, of all people, should know how these things end. It never ends well. With wooden movements, I strolled into the bathroom for another cold shower to calm myself. After that, I would drink a good amount of blood, and I would regain control of myself, but something told me that I could finish all the pints in my blood bank, and she would still live rent-free in my head. I could not tell what crazy obsession this was. The memories of last night still lingered, and the evidence was on my swoll
RALPH The plan was to go to my vacation house, but I changed my mind on the way. I needed to speak with Colbert. Fighting with him over that human was not worth it. "Reverse the car. We are going to Colbert's town," I said to the driver without looking at him. "Yes, Lord." My eyes shifted to the rearview mirror, and I caught my driver's eyes on me. He quickly averted it and focused on the road. "What is your name?" I asked. "Huh?" His eyes met mine in the mirror again. "My name is Kala." "Kala, why did you never marry?" He hiked his shoulders. "I guess I never really found someone I connected that much with." "And if you have found someone you connected so much with, would you have stayed with them even when it is forbidden?" I do not even know why I was asking that question. It is not like Jovita and I will ever be together, no matter the kind of attraction between us. I will not give up everything for a human. "I wou
THIRD PERSON'S POV Landon walked into the hall, filled with vampires and blood. There were no humans because any human who dared come there was gone. This was his army, the ones who were loyal to him. They hailed him as he walked past tables to a particular table surrounded by Lords. An older man peeked at him, and he ignored him and sat down beside a younger boy who appeared to be a teenager and was tanner than they all were. His eyes shifted to the woman sitting beside the older man peeking at him, and she winked at him. "Malcolm, you know that staring at me like that would not undo what happened. You must move on." A servant placed a dish in front of him and put a meal into it. "I do not know why Brenda keeps inviting you here. I do not want the likes of you here," the old man named Malcolm said. The woman in question tugged at his arm, signaling him to go easy. Landon grinned. "This might be your party, Malcolm, but this is my city."
JOVITA It was almost a week since Lord Ralph left his castle and since I was working at the dungeon and going to the market to get foodstuff. We were paired, and my partner was Emily. I was not always in the mood to talk to her, but I was not always bored either. I pretended I was okay, but I was not. I will not really say I missed the vampire lord, but his absence made me uncertain. I do not even know if it was anger I felt or molested. A new vampire girl has taken over my job, and does not look like she wants to chat with anyone. My plans were slipping away gradually. Maybe I would be stuck here and unable to kill this vampire whom I thought I hated so much. "What is the matter with you?" Ana asked, bringing me back to the present. I looked up to see her standing before me with her hands fisted on her waist. I sighed and laid back in bed, turning away from her, but she was not giving up. She sat down on my bed and turned me to face her. "You know, we ca
