THE ACCIDENT

RALPH

"Lord Ralph, I was concerned about what you said to me earlier," Dr. Steve said once I got into his office.

I sauntered in and flopped down on the only couch in his office. Dr. Steve's eyes remained on me as he resumed his seat by the desk. I rubbed my temple, not knowing where to start. I had to be subtle in my explanations; if not, he would find out who I was talking about. I needed to confide in someone.

"Lord Ralph, please tell me about this deadly symptom you say you experience."

I sat up. "Lately, I have been feeling like a fat man is sitting on my chest, but not in a very nice way."

The doctor's brows furrowed as he took in what I had just said and tried to process it. "Do you find it difficult to breathe when this happens?"

"No. This is not about physical pain or any pain of that sort. In fact, this is not pain. It does not affect my breathing or chest. It’s just... it’s just..." I stuttered off.

"How often does this happen?"
