Chapter 2: Turning.

There were two knocks on the door and I sensed another vampire. Silly me, it was my concierge Mr. Tanaka. I recognized his distinctive ways of knocking. Firm and soft at the same time.

Thinking alone and what were shown in the crystal ball had been putting me off being alerted to the surrounding. I was just so engrossed in the images I had just seen in the ball. So, I said,

“Come in…”

Mr. Tanaka showed only the part of his head from the back of the heavy mahogany door. His dutiful and little small shown on his old face. He was actually the best right hand a queen could have. Not just the concierge and the butler, he was almost like my own father, because my werewolf-turned-to-human father had already slept six feet underground.

He was the first person to offer himself to be a vampire when he found out I was cursed. Another reason I believed was he needed to find the killer of his daughter who killed my great grandfather as well. The ancient one that like I had said before, I was reluctant to mention.

Unfortunately, the crystal ball couldn’t detect or read any kind of the ancient ones, since it was only as old as my grandfather’s sister, grandma Crystal. The ancient one who killed my great grandfather was dated even long before BC, even older than the werewolves.

If it could, then I wouldn’t be here questioning and finding ways to survive as vampire and protecting human kind.

Swore, Mr. Tanaka took an oath to serve me forever until his days of being vampire finally end. He said that he’d like to see what would be the end of the ancient one who killed his daughter and his master, my great grandfather.

He even offered himself to be bitten by me, so that we could maintain close connection even though we were faraway apart in distance. A strong bond built between a vampire and the maker. And that was just how Mr. Tanaka built his own staff for the whole castle.

He asked each of them who wanted to join him in immortality to serve me, the vampire queen. Before then, they were serving the werewolves masters who chose to become mere humans for the sake of their future queen, me, vampire queen Vivienne.

Those who agreed, he turned right away. While those who didn’t want, serve my family who already became humans.

It was the darkest era when we had to separate their lives between the living and the undead. My family couldn’t be proud of it because changing from generations of werewolves to two generations of humans then preparing for the future vampire legacy, my legacy of protecting human kind, wasn’t an easy task to do.

There were times when the low rank undead as part of Mr. Tanaka’s staff accidentally lost in vampire rage and killed the living staff. Wasn’t something to be bragged about. But then again, sacrificing some for the greater good had been in the blood of my family since my great grandfather decided to be the alpha psychopath who protected the whole human kind of the Imperial Colony.

Consequently, it was necessary to be done. For the sake of future protector, us, the vampires who protect the humans in the Imperial Colony.

Fortunately, such event didn’t happen too much and my family members were safe until death came to them and they should be buried six-feet underground as humans. Thereupon, the living staff either willingly turned into vampires to serve me, their vampire queen and be immortal protector of the human, or left the castle with fortunate pension sufficient for them to live new life and be an employer to reduce the homeless humans who actually had skills to work.

As the same thing applied to my army as well, I built my own horsemen. Four of them, besides hunting for the rogue vampires, their vampire horses would also be the guillotine to end the rogue vampires that caught in our invisible spiderwebs.

Four of them would pull the head, each of the arms, and lower body of a rogue vampire from four different direction. To the north, to the east and west, and to the south.

Ergo, the head would be separated from the body and it would be my turn to burn the head with torch fire or fire arrow directly to the medulla oblongata, the exact spot to control the whole body not to assemble by themselves.

Afterall, it was the undead. They only needed to assemble the body, and they would kill human and drained the blood again.

Therefore, we still had curfew for the humans. They were only allowed to go out in the night when they were accompanied by vampire cops. It was like a protection service, just like taxis for transportation service.

So far, I had made a system where the humans could live side by side with sane vampires who drank only from the animal’s blood or those homeless humans who were willing to be their blood bags.

Some were taken care in the hospital, some lived with the vampires and they needed to report in case the vampire violated the human’s rights as a free man willing to do anything. An anti-glamour spell or charm was planted in the human so the vampire couldn’t force the human to do anything against his or her own free will.

The rest and the most, were lovers between vampire and human. It was easier this way that the vampire should have responsibility to take care of his or her human. When it was especially with love, sex, and anything else would be pleasurable to them.

Until it was the time for the human to age, then usually the human would be turned into vampire, and they would find two other humans to be taken care of. Imagine it as double date. Two vampire lovers fed on two human lovers. Since vampires lived longer, they could take care of the humans’ basic needs. Nothing to be worried about this system I built.

Now let me tell you about my four horsemen…
