"Oh, so he's awake?" Balthazar's question hung in the air as Alex didn't answer it. I didn't answer either, the feeling of being 'caught' somehow made me feel very nervous.

Alex stood up from my bed still with a sullen expression. His dark gaze fell on me before turning to Balthazar. "The marks and bruises are almost gone."

Balthazar's body stiffened in front of me, clearly angry. "That's right. You've told Caroline apparently." He paused for a moment then took a deep breath. "We'll talk downstairs after I get changed."

Balthazar turned around, glancing at me with those gray eyes that were as dark as the weather outside. He opened my bedroom door wide before stepping out of my room. I waited for the sound of Balthazar's footsteps to fade away before turning to Alex again. A smile, though very faint, appeared on his face. He walked towards me and put his arm on my shoulder.

"I know I shouldn't touch you so much," he muttered as he brushed his lips over the top of my head. "But I'm not
