His Mate

Remy’s POV

Today was supposed to be the day that my childhood friend Elodie arrived. I was expecting her to not want to see me or even speak to me at all. My father did something terrible to her parents when I was thirteen. He murdered them.

Why? I don’t know. At least not all the details. Something about witches running in Elodie’s bloodline. He banned the use of all magical werewolf gifts after that. I don’t believe Elodie descended from witches. I had never seen her mother or father do anything strange in the entire time I had known them. Elodie was also the least gifted wolf I knew. She struggled with everything as a child. I was constantly saving her from herself.

The girl was extremely accident prone and terribly uncoordinated. Honestly, I couldn’t tell you how many times I had caught her falling from somewhere or tripping over something. The thought made me chuckle.  How she survived childhood, I don’t even know.

As I pressed my pen down on the paperwork in front of me, the most intoxicating smell I had ever smelt wafted into my nose. It smelled like vanilla and fresh cut lilies with a hint of passion fruit. However, there was also something strangely familiar about it. A scent that I recognized.

Could it be? Was Elodie my mate?! I could smell her standing on the other side of the door now. Trying to maintain my excitement at this information, I quickly took a deep breath before calling to her. “Come in, Elodie.”

Suddenly, the door handle turned and the melodic sound of her voice hit my ears like a familiar song. I didn’t know how much I had missed hearing it. A smile began to slowly spread across my face as I watched her eyes trail up my form, admiration shining in their blue depths.

It seemed she was enjoying what was on display in front of her. I had to admit, I didn’t much mind the view either. I started at her feet, liking the combat boots she had chosen to go with her all black outfit. Her entire outfit was skin tight, complimenting all the places on her body that had filled out.

I had to refrain from licking my lips and making her angrier than she already was. Most of all, I loved the way her blue eyes stood out against her pale but darkened skin. Elodie was mixed. Her father, white, and her mother, black. Her usually curly hair was straightened down her back. She was gorgeous. Truly a sight to behold.

My ears registered every word she said even as I sat here admiring her. “Nice to see you too, El.” I replied sarcastically while my lips curled up into a hint of a smirk. This didn’t seem to please her or make her laugh. I didn’t expect that they would.

“You haven’t answered my question.” Her tone was serious as the expression on her face. It seemed I would have to address the elephant in the room before I could win her over.

I leaned forward in my chair, placing my elbows on my desk and folding my hands under my chin before I answered, “I promise, I will explain everything to you in due time. For right now, I just need you to get settled and be at training bright and early tomorrow morning before class.”

“Why, Remy? Why couldn’t you just leave me alone? I was happy out in the bayou. Away from you.” Apparently that answer didn’t make her happy, either. I sighed as I leaned back in my chair, “Listen, I get it. You’re angry. I am too, but for right now, can you just trust me?”

I watched the emotions dance across her breath-taking visage. My eyebrow twitched in amusement as it seemed that she was having an internal dilemma. “Fine,” She finally said after quite some time.

I let out a relieved sigh before replying, “Thank you.” I could feel the tug of the mate bond as I stared into her eyes which is what possessed me to say what I said next. “Matter of fact, let me take you out to dinner tomorrow night after class. We’ll catch up.”

I couldn’t help the grin that spread across my face as she responded, “Okay, then pick me up after class and it’s a deal.”

I let out a slight chuckle as I replied, “Okay.” This seemed to further increase her frustrations, to which she responded, “Whatever, Remy. Don’t be late.” I caught the roll of her eyes before she disappeared behind the door.

I immediately brought up the security cameras on my laptop so I could watch her as she left. I had always been attracted to Elodie, ever since we were children. She was my first crush. I think maybe somehow I knew, even back then, that she was my mate. I also knew some part of her was drawn to me, even though she wasn’t eighteen yet, I knew she could feel the mate bond. Her eyes had always spoken to me in a way that she couldn’t.

Suddenly, I heard the door open and I turned my head to see who came in. It was my Beta, Jack.

“Dude, what did you do to her?!” Jack asked accusingly.

“I didn’t do anything.” I said with the hint of amusement still dancing across my features.

“I know you, Alpha. You did something.”

I chuckled before responding, “I promise I didn’t do anything to her, Jack. Also, how many times have I told you to stop calling me Alpha when it’s just us?”

“Sorry, bro.” He shrugged with a laugh. “It’s hard not to sometimes.”

I just gave him a look before continuing, “Seriously, though. I think Elodie’s my Luna. She walked up to the door and I just got hit with this scent— it was the most amazing thing I’ve ever smelled.”

“DUDE!!!” Jack exclaimed after receiving this information. “I knew it! I always had a feeling. I’m happy for you, Rem. Maybe you can stop being a dick to the rest of us now.” He teased.

“She doesn’t know yet. At least I don’t think she does.”

“Are you gonna tell her?”

“I don’t know, man. What if she rejects me because of all the stuff with her parents?”

Jack stared at me seriously as he crossed his arms. “She won’t, Rem. Maybe don’t tell her just yet but drop hints. I mean, her birthday is only a month away.”

“You’re right,” I said as I suddenly remembered that he was right. Her birthday was only a month away. The wheels in my mind began to turn. I was already planning her birthday. “This is going to be an interesting month.”

“Don’t mess with her too much, bro.” He answered as he stared me down. Jacques knew me too well.

“I won’t,” I laughed. “Now get back to work.”

He rolled his eyes as he turned and opened the door, “Yes Alpha!” He retorted in a joking manner before closing it behind him, leaving me to my own devices again.

It was time to put the plan into motion, starting with making reservations at Elodie’s favorite restaurant for tomorrow night. I wanted to absolutely sweep her off her feet. That way, there was absolutely no way, that she could reject me.
