Chapter four

Raul’s point of view

I tuck my gun into my belt as I get ready to head into the woods to search for Leah when Phil, my head security guard, runs into the room slightly out of breath. As he says,

“Leah is walking down the driveway now with a woman.”

I jump up, heading for the front door, but before I get there, I smell an unusual yet ever-so-familiar scent. It's not the smell of any perfume or incense, and even though myself and Dolph, my wolf, have never net our mate, we know that this is her smell, the smell of the woman whom I was told of all those years ago.

My wolf, Dolph, is excited yet anxious at the same time. My mind is running wild with the thoughts of the woman on the other side of the door. This must be a sign from the moon goddess that my little sister, my only true blood relative, has helped me to find my mate.

And when I open the door, my god, she is beautiful; her hair falls down her back in long black wavy locks the colour of a raven. She is quite small in height, but from her stance, I get that she is powerful for a little human, the kind of woman who will stand up for herself, one who will stand up to me. I like that air of arrogance she has about herself; I smile as I look down into her melting chocolate eyes, as I take in her sent A hint of lemon and flowers. My God, she is perfect!

Leah calls out to her, thanking her for bringing her home

“Bye, little Wolf” " she replies. Oh, her voice is as beautiful as she is…. wait, what Wolf! I take a surprised look at My sister. She knows not to tell anyone about us being wolves, but she just winks at me archly.

I try to control my anger, knowing my mate is watching me. I try to regain my composure. I really didn’t want to scare my mate; I was surprised to see her watching me before turning to walk away. I smile at her, one that turns into something ugly: Jesus, Raul, what is wrong with you?

I watch as she walks away before turning my attention and anger towards my sister. It’s time to settle the score with this disobedient, dangerous child.

“Why Leah? Why would you tell her that you are a wolf? What if she is a bad person?” I say

To my annoyance, Leah laughs before she replies, “Come on, no one will trust this ridiculous thing…You worry too much, Raul. She took it as a joke.”

I fold my arms across my chest as I look down at Leah and growl

“Okay, she is just a young lady and does not look very dangerous, but what if you had said this to a person who believed you? They will hurt you with silver Leah or wolfsbane. It’s too dangerous.”

“I am not that stupid, Raul” " she grumbles before walking away, leaving me alone with my thoughts.

In the next few days, Leah and I have crossed paths many times, but I hope she has learned her lesson this time regarding telling strangers who we are. Even Liam has told her how dangerous this is for us.

We’re sitting at the kitchen table as we both eat breakfast, and she empties her plate like a young lady on a mission before jumping up and throwing her empty plate in the kitchen sink as she says,

“I’m going out”, before making her way out of the kitchen…

“Where are you going, Leah? I say as I follow her out of the room. She marches to the front door and shouts, “I’m going for a walk; I’m going to see Erin and help her get her bar fixed up, and you can’t stop me.”

“Why, what’s happened to her bar?” I ask, a little worried.

“The Mafia smashed it up, and she’s been waiting for them to leave so she can fix it up again.”

My sister replies like this is nothing, but what do the Mafia want with my mate?

“Where is her bar?” I ask. Leah raises her eyebrows, no doubt noticing the concern in my voice,

“Why, what’s it to you?” She says, making Dolph growl slightly with worry for our mate.

“We just need to know she is okay”, I reply as Leah grins before opening the front door. She laughs,

“She’s your mate, isn’t she, the human that the Moon goddess told you about?”

I don’t acknowledge it, but I won’t deny it either.

Leah smiles as if she knows something, “Well, I've never seen you care so much about a human before. I don’t know where her bar is. I just know it’s called the Star Gazer Inn.”

“If you are not home for teatime, Leah, I won’t let you out of this door ever again”, I reply before she slams the door in my face.

When I turn around, I see Liam’s daughter, Lucy, standing at the top of the stairs. She looks furious as I ask her.

“Did you hear any of that?”

She quickly masks her face. “All of it” “she replies.

I look at her as I say. “I don’t know if it’s true, Lucy. I don’t know if it’s possible for my mate to be a human; please don’t say anything. I don’t want to cause any more trouble for Erin. I need you to promise not to tell anyone, Lucy, not even your father.”

Lucy walks down the stairs, stopping before me as she places a hand on my chest and whispers, “I Promise I Won’t tell a soul, Raul.

“Thank you, Lucy; I can always rely on you,” I reply before walking away. I smile as she walks away; I've always been close to Lucy. After all, we grew up together, and no matter what, I've always been able to rely on her; she is like a sister to me: a sister and a friend, one who I can trust.

When I reach my office, I close the door before picking up the phone to call Phil, my head of security,

“What’s up, Boss?” he asks,

“Can you meet me in my office, buddy?”

“Yeah, no problem, be there in five” “he replies.

Less than five minutes later, he’s sitting in the chair in front of me,

“What’s up, buddy,” He asks.

“I need you to look into a pub called the Star Gazer Inn. The owner has been having trouble with some Mafia, and I need you to find out who it is and what they want?”

He raises an eyebrow and asks, “Is this owner anyone I know?”

I shake my head, “No, I don’t think so. I just need to know what’s going on.”

“Okay, Boss, leave it with me” “he replies before leaving me alone in the office.

Phil knocks on my office door a couple of hours later. He takes a seat as I offer him a drink and ask.

“What did you find out?”

“The Mafia involved is the Ramos family.”

I shake my head and reply, “The Same Ramos family that I refused to add on my books?”

“Yes, and that this Ramos family are the quickest-growing Mafia in the area, and they have some seriously shady shit attached to them.

I nod; I know all about the Ramos family. I’ve already investigated them, which is why I refused to collaborate with them on their last project, and they weren’t pleased about it.

“Do you know what they want with the Star Gazer Inn?” I ask

He nods, “Yes, it would seem one of the owners, A Warren James, has been sleeping with one of the Mafia’s wives.”

I frown. Does this mean my mate has a partner, A human partner? Maybe this Warren James is only a partner in the business. She doesn’t need anyone in her life who cheats on her. Just like if it was me, I would never cheat on my mate of my life. I will worship the ground that she walks on. She doesn’t need this man in her life anymore, either romantically or in her business.

I look at Phil as I say,

“Call The Ramos family up and tell them that I have changed my mind regarding the collaboration.”

Phil’s eyes widen as he looks at me and says, “Are you mad?”

I sigh as I reply, “Quite possibly, Phil, but I don’t see any other choice; call them up and request a meeting as soon as possible.” I say,

“You are the Boss, Raul; I just hope you know what you’re doing, though”, Phil replies, clearly not happy with my decision. I do not see any other choice, though I must keep my mate safe, and if that means collaborating with the Mafia, then so be it.

If it means they leave Erin and the Star Gazer alone, then that’s all that matters. I will deal with any aftermaths later!
