Seventy three: the annoying Caine

Xander’s POV

“It’s very dangerous, Xander,” Caine says; his usual irritating grin is nowhere to be found.

“I know,” I state, fighting the urge to take down the bun on my head and run my fingers through my hair.

“So, we shouldn’t bring him here; we should kill him on the spot.”

“Don’t worry about that; I have everything under control, man. Plus, we’re not bringing him into the pack's close people.”

“Look, Xander, I know you’re smart and strong, but this guy could be really dangerous. What if things don’t go as planned?” Caine was never caring—at least that’s what I thought. So, him showing some care about my safety is a little funny, and I couldn’t help but smile.

“What the heck is funny, Xander? I’m trying to be logical here. We’re going to do this as anonymously as possible. But if we bring him with us, his people will come find him. It’s not because I’m scared or anything, but you have a mate now, Xander; you need to think about their safety.”
