chapter fifty-eight

Emily POV

"Tyler, stop that," I said as he kept looking back, telling him to check if everything was okay.

"Are you sure she's comfortable in this car seat?" he asked, turning his attention back to the road.

"She's sleeping," I said, looking at the little one in front of me, the most beautiful thing in the world. The baby had more hair than I had ever seen, like cotton candy, all pink.

I was so happy, but Caroline's situation intrigued me, and there was still Johanna and Paul Mitchell, who, from all indications, had left town because they had crossed the authorities. But it could be a lie.

"And your parents?" I asked.

"It seems they really left town, but we're prepared in case they come back or try anything."

"And Caroline?"

"We have no news of her anyway; stop reminding me of bad things," he said, looking away again.

"Tyler! Pay attention to the traffic," I altered my voice a bit, accidentally waking up Julie.

"There, see, you woke her up," he said, shaking his head.
