After several somersaults down the cliff into the woods, their vehicle finally came to a halt when it collided with a tree trunk in the forest. Their vehicle now laid upside down in the middle of nowhere, the four wheels still rotating around the axles as the engines went ablaze.
No one was conscious after the crash, but coincidentally a young boy happened to be close by. His name was Henry, the youngest member of the Carter werewolf family. Once he noticed the accident, he went over to offer some help but it was too late for Nicole’s parents, they had already succumbed to their injuries.
Henry could hear Nicole’s heart beat faintly, she was in the rear seats still stuck to her seat belts. He was able to yank her out of the burning vehicle, Nicole was on the brink of death and that left Henry with no other choice. Without any hesitation, he slashed his palms with his claws and poured a few drops into her mouth.
He was careful not to give her so much of his blood because it could be toxic to a human. Henry had no other way of ensuring her survival without turning her into a werewolf. Henry had to find a place to keep her for the time being while she recovered.
He took her to his family’s cabin quite a distance away, carrying her on his back. Henry made sure that none of his family members had an idea about her, he secretly brought her meals.
“Hey Henry, are you okay?” Henry’s mom, Agatha, asked him. She noticed that his eating habits had changed a lot plus he was eating twice as much as he used to earlier.
“I am,” he uttered
“I have never felt better,” he added, as he wore a fake smile on his face.
“I just need to be sure that you are not going through any phase alone, we are here for you,” she told him. Agatha imagined that he was going through depression since he had been spending most of his time in the cabin, for some weeks now.
“I know all that mum, but as I said I am fine,” he told her, trying to convince her.
“I guess I would have to take your word for it,” Agatha replied to him.
It had been two whole days and the mystery girl he saved was still recovering, she had not woken up. He could only feed her with liquid food since she could not chew. That morning, he returned to the cabin to find out that Nicole was not present.
He began to panic, because he thought that perhaps his mom found out what he was hiding and he felt it was the reason behind the sudden show of care earlier.
Henry walked a few meters from the cabin in search of the mystery girl and he was relieved to find her.
“what are you doing here?” he questioned her. She looked confused and tired, she obviously had no idea where she was going to.
“who are you?” she asked him, “where am I?” Nicole added. She glanced around in different directions, as she placed her palms on her face trying to feel her own body.
Her body was readjusting after she regained consciousness, her senses seemed strangely elevated. She slowly walked up to a puddle of water close by and just as she took a glance to see the reflection of herself, her legs trembled and she fell. Henry was able to grip her just before she hit the ground.
Henry escorted her back to the cabin, holding her hands across his shoulders to help her walk through the stumpy woods. He was actually happy to see her awake, but his fear was that she would want to know the whereabouts of her parents.
“what is your name?” Henry asked her out of curiosity.
After a pause, she uttered “My name is..., Nicole,” she sounded quite uncertain.
“are you sure?” Henry probed.
“yes, I think so,” Nicole replied to him.
“So, what are you doing around here?” he inquired, Henry wanted to know how much she remembered.
“I...,” she paused for a while, “Do not know,” Nicole said to Henry, she gazed at him completely confused.
Henry did not want to break the news to her about the accident and her parents, he felt that it would be too much for her since she was just recovering. Later that day Henry decided to return to the crash site, he wanted to clear the wreckage and bury the bodies of Nicole’s parents.
He could not find the crash site anymore when he returned, at first he thought that it was just him unable to remember the location of the crash. Soon Henry realized that someone else was already there and they did not leave any trace of an accident behind. Down to the trees and the grasses that had been destroyed were completely replaced with props.
Henry began to think that there was more to the accident, it did not in anyway random.
“where have you been?” Nicole asked Henry as he returned.
“I went for a walk in the woods,” he replied, for some reason he did not also want her to find out about his family.
“why do I feel so blank, like I’m meant to know something but nothing adds up,” she questioned.
“I have no idea but there is nothing to worry about, you’ll be fine,” Henry assured her.
Once Peter realized that the tracker placed on Nicole had stopped transmitting, he sent some of his men to see what happened. Nicole had enrolled into the University of Denver just few months before the incident happened. After she was gifted an iPhone, a present no one would refuse.
When Peter’s men arrived at the crash site some hours later, they saw the crash but could not find Nicole. Peter was more bothered about the wreckage rather than the young girl, and he needed to cover up the accident.
Peter was not directly involved in the crash but if there were any investigations, it could lead to him and other incriminating information would eventually be discovered.
The clouds had darkened and thunder rumbled. The trees rustled, the sky dusked and the shadows grew long. “Is it about to rain?” Nicole asked Henry, who was just standing by the window glaring into the woods. “I think so,” he replied to her. “Oh! I do not like rains though, I might catch a cold,” she told Henry, “maybe some of your warmth could help,” Nicole suggested to him, she wanted a curdle from him. Henry paused for a while, he pretended as if he could not hear a word she said before he suggested, “I could get you a blanket or something,” “that would be suitable, I guess.” She told him. “I would be back, please do not go anywhere,” he begged of her. “I will not, but why can you leave and I can not?” she asked him, as she fixed her confused look upon him. “it is not quite safe for you to be out alone in this treacherous forests,” he explained to her, “moreover, you are still recovering from your injuries,” he said. “I definitely
Nicole was just woken up by the crow of a hen, it had become quite a normal. Stretching and yawning, she turned to her side but Henry was not there even if he was with her late the previous night. She had never really wondered what he always went to do deep in the woods, Henry never told her about his family, probably because she never asked. Henry did his best to avoid any suspicions that about the stranger he harboured in his family’s cabin, he was scared that if his family members would freak out if they found out that there was a human in their cabin. As werewolves they were very particular about him getting too close to humans, to avoid anyone from knowing the truth about him. As Nicole got out of bed, she decided to take a short walk inside the woods. Even though Henry warned her against leaving the cabin, her curiosity would not let her stay back. Just a few meters and she began feeling a bit weak and dizzy, she initially ignored it but soon her legs could barely su
“Hmm, so what could this mysterious thing that you want me to see be?” Nicole questioned him. “You will know,” he replied to her, deep down Henry was conflicted about telling her the truth. “We would take a walk into the woods, it is probably going to be our first walk since you recovered,” he told her. Once he uttered the word ‘recovered’ it seemed to have triggered some sort of memory loop in her mind. Another set of memories flashed through her head, this time it seemed to be the last moments just before an accident. She froze in her tracks for a while, unable to speak or move. “are you alright?” Henry asked her, it seemed like Nicole had blanked out yet she was still awake but she made no reply to him. “what is wrong?” he asked again in a more worried tone, this time he grabbed her by the shoulders and tried getting her attention. She snapped out from what seemed to be a trance, her memories were returning and they were returning fast. “what the hell was t
Just a moment ago, Henry and Nicole seemed to be having a good time and all of a it was a race to prevent Nicole from going to the bottom of the river. Fortunately, Henry acted very fast. Without hesitation, he immediately dove into the river and reached out to Nicole. Her black out episodes were getting increasingly frequent and persistent, initially she would experience flashes of her memories but now she was blacking out for minutes. It scared him and Henry blamed himself, since he thought that it was the werewolf blood he had introduced into Nicole's body. Once he brought her to the shore, he began applying some pressure to her chest trying his best to resuscitate her but she was not responding. He panicked when he realized that his efforts to enable her regain consciousness was not working. Even if she had the blood of a wolf, she had never turned so Nicole was still a mere mortal human. “achoo!” Nicole sneezed as she opened her eyes slightly, “Henry, what hap
Just as Nicole was trying avoid waking Henry up, she unknowingly nudged him a little bit waking him up. Twisting and turning, Henry woke up. His eyes struggling to remain steady as he tried holding them open, “Good morning,” Nicole uttered quietly, “I did not mean to wake you up,” she added, feeling quite remorseful for breaking his beauty sleep. “Oh please, it is fine. Moreover I seem to have overslept a bit,” he replied to Nicole. “Anyway, I hope you had a good night sleep?” he inquired. “Of course dear, staying by your side always keeps me at peace,” she said to him, “You look handsome when you sleep,” she commented. “really? You are even more attractive regardless of the situation,” he replied, “Wait a minute!” Henry exclaimed as he began turning his head around like he was in search of something. “what is it?” Nicole asked Henry, she was confused with the sudden mood change. “Do you know what the time is?” he asked, “I think I am already late fo
Henry had not yet gotten a license yet, but that was the only option if they were going to make it in time."hop in, will you?" Henry asked, gesturing at the front seat.Nicole nodded and slid into t.he passenger seat of Henry's car. He hadn't really been expecting much from him when Adam first The seats were covered with a couple of books, that she tossed behind. She sat crisscrossed on one, watching him buckle his seatbelt and turn on the engine. He smiled, then started the car, shifting gears and taking off down the street. It'd be a long drive, but the sooner they got there the better. They wouldn't have time for the usual small talk between friends.Nicole watched him carefully while he drove, until they were on the main road."I just hope we don't meet the cops on our way," Henry uttered, glancing over. He turned towards Nicole briefly, giving her a quick smile.Nicole returned the gesture and looked down at the book she was holding. It wasn't something important or particular
When she finally managed to regain consciousness the next day, her memories had fully been regained. The first thing that occurred to her was the fact that everything hurt. Everything throbbed in pain. She tried to move but it all felt wrong. When she attempted to turn over, a wave of nausea overtook her and she felt something wet dripping down her chin. That's when her eyes snapped open, staring at nothing. Her head felt like someone had jammed cotton balls inside it, and she could barely move. Where am I? As if summoned by her thoughts, there was a soft, familiar voice speaking. She strained her ears, trying to catch what was being said. “Hey, Nicole. How are you feeling?” Who… She tried to speak, but found that her mouth felt incredibly dry. The sound only came out as a croak. Her throat was burning. As she opened her mouth again, however, another unfamiliar voice spoke up. “Don't strain yourself just yet, Nicole." Henry said to her, "you blacked out since yesterday, I've ne
After a long time, Nicole was finally ready to go back to her previous life to search for the answers she needed. Henry was quite supportive, they both had already planned the journey but Henry could not possibly leave his family just like that only to follow Nicole in her endeavours. He didn't open up to Nicole about him being part of it, he just supported everything she did and helped her make plans. When the day came around for them to set off on their travels, Nicole felt uneasy and she didn't know why. She felt scared as well but she wanted to do this. She needed to do it, even if she would never admit it out loud. She knew that it wasn’t going to be easy, that her mind may try to convince her otherwise. She was even more agitated once Henry explained to her why he could not actually join in her journey, she was sad and a bit angry since he was just telling her after all these while."why did you make me think you would come?" She said looking down at the ground, tears begin
