It was almost a week since Sil spoke to Rick through Clair and since the beginning of the week, Clair barely saw Rick for more than ten minutes a day. He always left in the morning when she'd still be asleep and come back late at night only to say as much as good night before retiring to his own room. He'd instructed Todd to make sure she took her tea and keep an eye on her while he drove himself to work. She was beginning to feel like he was avoiding her but she wondered why.
The day was almost over and she was bent on talking to him. She struggled to keep herself awake and when her eyes seemed drowsy, she went to wash her face. Just as she was about to give up and retire to her bed, She heard the door open. It was Rick.
Ha! in your face sleepiness.
Rick could see a silhouette beginning to stand a little distance in front of him but couldn't make out who it was. He stopped suddenly and switched on the light to see who it was. It was Clair.

June 22, 1121It was night in Wivern's Rest town. A blanket of darkness covered the entire province. The bright and warm summer Sun that commonly graced the day had long since set and in it's place, twinkling stars. It was a beautiful night for those that enjoyed the cool night breeze and stargazing. Somewhere in the bushes nearby, the chirping of crickets could be heard.Aelfric stood over the altar with shaking hands. He'd spent months preparing everything. Gone to great lengths to gather the materials he needed. Lots of sleep lost for the sake of this very moment, he'd even slain a gargantuan three headed beast. Now he waited.Where was she?
PART 1THE TRAVELLERNot all those who wander are lost~ J.R.R. Tolkien. Jan 17, 2065"Someone said, 'Immortality is to live your life doing good things and leaving your mark behind', didn't they? What better way to bring life to people if not through this, this handwork of mine. He pondered as he paced up and down his office. Imagine a life where everyone could be given a second chance livin
She didn’t know what woke her. She sat up straight on her wide bed, squinting her eyes so that it adjusts to the semi darkness in the room. This was starting to become a habit, one that she abhorred with the whole of her being. Every day she goes to bed late and wakes just few minutes before full dawn with a start as if someone had called her name or tapped her. Yet each and every single time, it was just her alone in her room panting heavily. This event has been repeating itself for almost three weeks now. Although there were days when she was spared and she woke like 'a normal human being'. And despite the cold winter outside, Her sheets felt moist, wet from the sweat which still drenched her skin. Her hand went to the oval pendant of the necklace she always wore. She stroked it for a few seconds then She checked the time from the clock on
Clair got to her workplace by eight thirty and packed her car in the space allocated for staffs. Office hours wouldn't be starting till around nine, but most of her colleagues arrive hours before the time to finish up whatever they were working on. The building stood before her with the name THE QUOTIDIAN NEWS plastered boldly on it. She smiled at she looked up at it like it was her first day at work. She couldn't wait to tell her Boss the news.It was a monstrously huge modern skyscraper with Seventy eight floors. Every inch of the ediface was covered in glossy glass and metal. The entire building was own by the news company. Not only were they into newspaper and magazine publication, they also had a radio and TV station.Clair walked the short distance from the revolving front door to the receptionist desk."Ms. Fisher, good morning. Hope you had a nice night?" The woman behind the receptionist desk asked nicely."Thank you Grace. I slept like a b
"Stop the worry Hailey, it's only a mere trip." Clair rolled her eyes. Dressed in mickey mouse T shirt and a flower patterned pyjamas slacks, She was seated on the chair in front of her vanity, painting her toe nails with nail varnish with the leg she was currently painting on her chair.Clair was on the phone with her best friend and foster sister Hailey Fisher. Clair met Hailey in the house of Mr Patrick Fisher. Clair has never known her biological parents and has spent her entire live moving from one foster home to the other. Most of the earliest foster homes she was in was not only crowded but also their foster parents didn't care as much for them as they cared for the money the state payed them to take care of the kids. Most days, the kids were only served a measly amount of food twice a day, there were even days when they went without food. Clair ran away more than twice from these homes but there weren't that many places a seven year old could run to so she was c
Initially, he told himself that the girl was just a means to an end. A talented young reporter who could cover his company's impending product launch with enough edge and controversy to create a hype about his machine. From everything he's gathered on Clair Fisher, creating a hype comes easy to her. She would do what she needed to do for his product launch. The launch was everything. On the small monitor screen inside the private jet, he could see a very low quality video of her walking down the road, towards his location with a tall man by her side carrying her travelled bag."Who's with her?" Rick asked."Sir, it's Jude. He was supposed to be at the radioactive research compound but I fixed him to be Clair's escort since two other guards were already stationed there." Todd responded."That's good Todd. Very good." He turned his attention back to the monitor. Just looking at Clair walk to the plane does something he could not explain to him. He knew he h
PART 2The inception.A story has no beginning or end: arbitrarily one chooses that moment of experience from which to look back to or from which to look ahead.~Graham GreeneCHAPTER SIXLet's go back to where it all started. To the time when sunshine and laughter was the order of the day, to the time when they knew any better. To the beginning.****The wooden window clanged against it's frame as the wind howled and raged outside."Hurry up Beeta, we're going to be late!" Aelfric shouted, grunting his frustration."But Itzel isn't feeling too well, I have to stay and look after her until ma gets back." Beeta was Aelfric's five years old younger sister. Aelfric and Beeta lived with their mother Aurelia in a little village called Winton which was north of Wivern's Rest citadel."Well in that case, I have no other option but to leave you and go. The festival has long started and I wager they are w
"Aelfric? Aelfric! Aelfric!" cried a loud shrill but excited voice. The call came from the front of the house. Young Aelfric who was cleaning the house on hearing his name turned to at the door." Ma!", he answered. His mother by this time had gotten inside."Oh my dear son, come here," She pulled him and hugged him tightly, released him and showered him with sloppery kisses."Awww, mum stop and tell me already. What's the excitement about?" He asked laughing and wiping the kisses off his face."Here." She handed him a letter. On the front of the letter was written, From Wivern Rest. He stared at the envelop in his hands quite confused about what to do."Come on now. Open it." She urged. The flap was already torn open but he opened it nonetheless, with shaking hands.Dear Aelfric,Your letter of application was gotten. Your level of enthusiasm and interest was with no doubt spewed all over your words in your letter. With this, I am pl
