The night was cold and dark, devoid of the moon and stars. Glancing next to the door, he found her, her head bent on her knees, her arms wrapped around her. Instantly, guilt and regret crept over his emotionless heart. Devlin gulped to ease the tension in his throat and bent next to her. He slid a hand across her tiny shoulder.

Softly shaking her only to find that she was deep asleep when her head effortlessly slid in the crook of his arms. His heart skipped a beat and his intake of oxygen cut. Left with no choice, slowly, Devlin picked her up in his arms to carefully put her on her bed. Quietly, he pulled the covers over her and then gazed at her face. Her mesmerising eyes were closed and the lashes seemed longer than usual. Her lips were slightly parted and she was breathing softly and melodiously.
