Antonio came back a few minutes later but it didn’t give me enough time to calm my raging heart. I wondered if he could see the shame written on my face as he met my eyes and sat down on the bed with a dish in one hand and a bottle of wine and two glasses in his other hand. “I brought red wine to go with your food.” I thanked him and prayed to whatever god was listening that the tears I held at bay didn’t make their appearance. “Come.” He pulled me closer and I watched as he put the glasses down and filled them with red wine before giving one to me. “I am letting you have this one because you asked so nicely.”

I smiled, a genuine smile. “Now, you plan to stop me from drinking too?”

He looked down at the plate of lasagne he had brought and even as my stomach let out a hungry grumble at the delicious scent, I was half afraid of getting sick with all the nerves. “I should’ve stopped you way before, and maybe then what happened wouldn’t have happened.” He replied in a gruff tone,
