Chapter 28

VIOLETTE.

Three days. I hadn’t seen Noah for that long. He stayed true to his words, letting me have his room while he slept elsewhere. Never once had I caught him sneaking into this room. I sleep and wake up alone. I expected to be in peace, yet my heart only grew uneasy.

I never stepped out of the room for fear of meeting him. Apparently, he had ordered his maid to serve me. I had three meals a day, and I got warm water to bathe. I should be happy, but I wasn’t. Not even a bit.

Strolling toward the door, I opened it, letting the air from outside graze my skin. Cold infiltrated not only my body but also my heart. I went to the closet, took Noah’s coat, and put it over my tiny body. His scent, musk-mixed spices, surged to my nose, sending a warming effect to me.

“I miss him,” I mumbled without realizing it. Looking up to the ceiling, I hefted my hand and slapped my mouth hard. I shouldn’t have said that. I was still angry with him. I didn’t want to give in, not yet.
