Actual stabs hurt less than that confession. (Amelia should know.) They sat in a silence for quite some time, drawing comfort from one another. "I know you don't like the thought of therapy, but I think you should give my therapist a chance. She's already helped me a lot. And... Alex didn't want to impose but she has a family who went through something close to our experience. Maybe talking to him would help, too."

John seemed more skeptical. The man shook his head. "Amelia..."

"We can get through this, John. But not without help." Amelia sighed. "We should've already sought out help after so many things. Give it a chance now." She let that plea sink in. "We can do this. Together."

John appeared conflicted but nodded eventually. Then pulled her to a hug. His sister had never held on to her so tightly.

They both knew there was a lot more they needed to say and talk about but for now that was all they had the energy for.
