Chapter Fifty-Three: The Favour

"Firstly, your signature means you will participate in the will's terms."

The man who visited my mother dressed in a blue suit says. He pauses to sip his tea, which smells of jasmine before he continues.

"These are the-"

"I would like to withdraw."

I say, interrupting him; perhaps I should have said my piece while he sipped his tea instead of waiting.

"You cannot withdraw."

"Technically, yes, but I can refuse to participate. I was told the will's terms were if I marry Daniel, I get-"

"The will's terms have changed."

He says, cutting me off. We are both being rude.

"What do you mean the terms of the will have changed? I signed with the information the late Montgomery Gordon gave me."

I defend, but he only rummages his bag for a folder as if his answer lay there.

"I mean exactly that; the terms of the will have changed."

The man hands me the third folder in his case.

"The late former prime minister Mr Montgomery Gordon instructed me to hand this to you in case of his death. You are the
