39: Annie's POV
Annie is our queen.
The words reverbarate around in my head, but no matter how hard I try I can not make them make sense.
The chancellor in on his feet, still looking me in the eyes. He taps Matteo and Daryl on the shoulders, they both stand and all three bow to me together.
"I don't underdstand... What does that mean? I ... I can't be a queen, we don't have a queen. And besides my father is a beta, how could I be the queen?" I say, not trying to call him a liar, but also needing proof.
"Well, we had a King and a Queen, centuries ago. In each new generation was born a female werewolf who was destined to be the queen. Now I hear not only Micheal behind me, but Ansel, and Julian as well. Julian may be new to the group, but he is also upset at a man challenging a woman half his size. A few of the warriors step farward to object to me giving orders to Chad, whom they still think is their future alpha."Stop!" I call to them, then I add to Chad in a carrying voice "As the Queen, I hereby strip you of your rank as alpha. Chad, you will now and forever be a rogue wolf, never again able to join a pack or hold a rank of any kind."As soon as the words leave my mouth Chad's scent change's, leaving no doubt that I am in fact the queen that I claim to be.I address the crowd in a loud clear voice. "I know that everyone has a lot of questions, and I promise that we will make a time to have a pack meeting to answer all of your questions. For right now I will say this, I am not here to harm your pack. I give you my word that I am here as a friend. Chad is guilty of demoting a pack member to Omega. The party is in full swing, people are dancing, eating, and having fun. On Miss Frankie's suggestion I hired a group of teen's, their garage band is playing now, a mix of country, rock, emo, and pop music, the pack seems to be loving it. The council walks in, in their robes, looking intimidating. They all sit together, not talking to the pack members. I would say it is rude, but they are the council, and this is sorta just how they are. After a few minutes I notice that Matteo is not among the council members, since he is staying here to help me adjust he is dressed in regular clothes now, blending into the crowd. I am not sure this plan will work, since anyone here can smell the council rank on him, but at least it has a chance of tricking the witch if she is watching. I wonder if we should light the bonfire? I pace around the hospital waiting room, the doctors have been working on the girl for over an hour. Her mother walks in, tears streaming from her eyes. I wrap my arms around her and pull her close, letting her cry on my shoulder."I know baby, I know" I keep repeating these words, as I stroke her back. It is another 30 minutes before the nurses come out to update us."She is alive, but she lost a lot of blood, do either of you know your blood type? She is going to need a transfusion, and we are VERY low on blood, we dont have any in her type..." The nurse tells us."I am a universal donor, O negative blood type, take what you need." I answer."Okay, follow me. Megan, you can go and see Molly now, just... hold her hand, try not to move her or touch anything else, she is still very raw." Micheal returns followed by Miss Frankie, who is dressed in her night things."Oh no! I didn't realize how late it got miss frankie, I am so sorry! Miss Frankie doesn't have much more to say. "The only other thing I have noticed change, well, I those of us who work in the kitchens, or other service positions around the pack, we have not been being paid like we before. Some have had their pay cut by as much as half, some have only been paid every other month, and when we tried to see the alpha about it the beta stopped us, ordered us back to work and threatened to demote us all to Omega if we ever slacked on our work, at the time I was sure that it was an empty threat, but that was 8 months ago, and smelled that omega only 3 months ago." She finishes with her head down in a look of shame. I know what she is feeling, she is wishing that she had done more to help the Omega while he was still trapped. As we are helping clean up the aftermath of the council's going away party, I look over to see my father and mother. They are seated next to each other, but they look distant. I watch as Ri'elle place's the spell on the cage my father is in. It seems to have worked.
