Chapter 4

Xian West P.O.V.

Flashback

I was awakened by the sudden ringing of my alarm clock. I reached for my bedside table to stop my ringing alarm clock.

I got up from my bed and went to my bathroom to take a bath and prepare for school. After bathing and donning my school uniform, I went downstairs and headed to the kitchen to eat breakfast.

At the dining table, I saw two people; a man and a woman busy eating their breakfast. My father was wearing a black suit. He is busy reading something, I don't know what he is reading. It is probably a case he took. My father is a lawyer, he is one of the most powerful lawyers in the country; he rarely loses a case he is defending, he only loses if his client is someone he doesn't want to defend in court. That is how powerful of a lawyer he is.

On the other hand, my mother is wearing a simple blouse paired with pants, on her right side; her lab gown is placed neatly on the chair. My mother is a doctor; she is one of the most famous surgeons here in the country, every operation she does is successful, and she has never had a patient die on her.

My father's name is James West and my mother's name is Helena.

I approached them and greeted them.

"Good morning Mom, dad" I sat on an empty chair opposite my mom.

My father ignored me while my mom just smiled at me, they did not return my greeting. Anyways it's fine, I'm used to it.

I placed food on my plate and started eating silently.

While I was eating my father put his Ipad on the table and looked at me.

"It's your first day of school, have you done your advanced study?" I put away my utensils and wiped my mouth.

"Yes Dad, I have read all the lessons until next week" he looked at me with a bored face, scrutinizing if I am telling the truth.

"Good, if I found out that you are slacking off on your studies, I will make sure that you are punished according to the family rules." he wiped his mouth and then stood up.

"Yes, Dad." I continued eating my breakfast.

"Honey, just finish your breakfast, I need to go now, there is an emergency," she picked up her lab gown and went out without even bothering to look at me.

I smiled bitterly, I am used to this kind of setup with my parents, my father being strict with my studies as he did not want me to disgrace the name of the family as our family is the owner of the school that I am attending and as he always reminds me, there is no retarded in the bloodline of the West's.

All of my predecessors were famous in their careers, they are known geniuses, but what puzzles me is that not even one of them ever got into business. So he wants me to excel in my studies too, he wants me to be the number one in everything.

On the other hand, my mom neglects me, she is always busy in the hospital; tending to her patients that she sometimes even forgets that she had a son, there is a time when she even asked me who I am, if I am one of her patients when I visited her in the hospital.

After finishing my breakfast, I donned my bag and got ready to leave for school. When I went out there was a car parked in front of the main door waiting for me.

"Good morning, young master" he greeted me as he gestured to me to get in the car.

"Good morning, Mr. Smith." I greeted him back.

The journey to my school took about half an hour, it is just the first day of school so the schedule for the morning session is orientation.

After arriving at the parking lot of the school, I immediately alighted the car and told Mr. Smith to go back.

This school is a boarding school but since our house is just half an hour away my parents decided that I will still stay in our house not in the dorm of the school.

I still have my dorm here even though I am not allowed to sleep here in school, well my parents owned the school so they can do whatever they want.

I have my curfew at 10:45 since our classes go on until 10 in the evening and the journey back is half an hour. They consider themselves generous by giving me a fifteen-minute grace period.

I started walking towards the auditorium where the orientation was being held when suddenly someone approached me.

A girl who looked unfamiliar to me stood in front of me. She is somewhat awkward and keeps wandering her eyes in the surroundings.

I glanced at her and raised my eyebrow as she was blocking my way.

"U-uhm, can I ask you a question," she said weakly, still not looking my way.

I bore my eyes at her signaling her to shoot her questions.

"Can I ask where the auditorium is? You see, I'm a transferee and I am not familiar with the place" She smiled at me awkwardly.

"follow me" I started walking as I said that, not even looking if she was following behind me.

"Wait!" she shouted as she ran to follow me.

She started rambling as soon as she walked beside me. She is talkative, I don't even know what she is saying as I am not interested to listen. I just ignored her and continued walking toward the auditorium.

"Hey, are you listening to me?" she stop in front of me and blocked the way.

"move" She just stayed still even after I said that so I just walked past her.

After reaching the auditorium, I saw Ace standing at the entrance as if waiting for someone, he is probably waiting for me.

As I approached him, he noticed me and ran towards me. He clung his arms around my shoulders.

"Bro, I missed you. How was your vacation?" We started walking inside the auditorium.

"The usual" I answered him nonchalantly.

"Hey!" We stopped walking and looked back to see who was shouting.

I saw the girl from earlier running my way.

"I've been calling you, why did you not wait for me?" She stopped in front of me and panted.

I just looked at her and walked to the auditorium.

"Hi, I am Ace, Xian's best friend and you are" I heard Ace talking to the girl.

"Oh so his name is Xian, hi, I am Ayesha," she said as they shook hands.

"Why are you calling Xian? Do you know each other? But from what I heard you say, you have just known that his name is Xian." They followed me from behind and talked with one another as if they are friends.

As we entered the auditorium, I wandered my seats looking for vacant seats. The auditorium is already packed as the orientation has already started a few minutes ago so all students are already here.

After looking for a while, I saw empty seats in the front so I went there and sat. Ace and Ayesha followed me and sat on my right.

I focused my attention on the stage while the two just kept on talking, busy with their conversation.

The orientation lasted for two hours, and I saw many students charging toward the exit. I decided to just stay in my seat and wait for most of the students to go out before exiting the auditorium.

A few minutes passed and finally, there were just a few students left. I stood up from my seat and walked towards the exit.

The two followed me from behind.

"Bro, let's eat first. There is still an hour and a half before the afternoon session."

I just nodded at him and continued on my way.
