Adam's Pov

I was not unfamiliar with the taste of death; I had eaten it countless times before. On my path, helplessness, and hopelessness had been constant companions. Countless frightening situations had threatened to destroy me, but I had survived. Was it pure luck or my unwavering determination to live that kept me going?

Death danced around us like a nasty specter on that fateful day, mocking us before we could even react. The joyful birds sang and danced in the big blue sky, completely unaware of the impending danger below.
