My life had been a frenzy of travel and celebration as a free spirit, partying in several countries with a large group of friends. When I came home, it was just for a short time, and my mother never moaned because she knew I'd be gone shortly. My father, on the other hand, was always concerned about my free-spirited character, hoping that I would completely embrace my pack position.

While I was technically a pack member, I never felt like one, especially when I wasn't carrying out my responsibilities. Despite my reservations, the Oak pack readily offered me the crown following my parents' sad death. They regarded me as the proper succession because I was the son of the revered Alpha, Garrison Ronan. They were my family in this way, though I couldn't help but feel unworthy of their love and commitment.
