Forest Awakens

I watched Rem carefully as his breathing quickened with each breath of his. He seemed to fight something at first, likely the spirit from taking over, I imagined. With a shake of his head, Rem closed his eyes and took a step out of my grip and held his hands over his ears.

I blinked and hesitantly reached out to touch him.

“Don’t…” he whispered, though I couldn’t tell if he directed that at me or the spirit within. I still heard nothing in Rem’s mind to suggest he had a wolf in there.

“Rem?” I called out to him, worry crossing my features now. My heat seemed to cool off as my emotions shifted from one to the other. “Are you… alright?” I questioned. I paused my hands in the air in a torn stance on if I should embrace Rem or withdraw.

There was silence for a moment before Rem’s gaze lifted back up to me. His breathing was still heavy, but he seemed to find himself again as his eyes and teeth slowly shifted back to normal. He lower
