ZANNICUS:

No one moved.

No one blinked.

H*ll, I'm not even sure if any of us were breathing. We stood there, silent and stunned beyond belief. I looked at Seth who had deflated and looked so disheartened and shattered.

I glanced at the direction where Nica ran off to then back at him, debating if I should run after her or let her be. But her actions confuse me so I gave up and chose the former and raced out of there.

I entered the dark forest, immediately catching onto her scent and turned left then up the slope. I know where she went. I sprinted up and up and up until the path we created came in view.

When we were children, the three of us would come up here whenever we need an escape or to simply be alone. I need not to look if the small rocks we painted was still there, it's always there; they formed a path that is only clear to me and my friends and long minutes later, two familiar boulders acting as the gateway to our place appeared.
