Paul rolled his eyes. "Baby, can you let me just have my moment?"

I raised my hand and left them. I walked over to the rest of the Council.

"I cannot believe the wolf's plan worked," Cyrene said.

"Yeah, now you and Kaniji don't have to go through with whatever plan you had cooked up," I said.

Kaniji's face darkened and I knew that I had guessed right. Whatever they had planned would not have been good for me, and that was a certainty.

"Kim," Monica said. "I would like to talk to you when … things have calmed."
