Caleb turned and looked at her, danger hidden behind his eyes. “What did you say?”

“I...”

“Em did everything she could to save my grandma, so why are you describing her as if she’s the one at fault here?”

Penelope seemed to be shocked by his angry voice, and she continuously shook her head as tears rolled down her cheeks. “Caleb, I’m just speaking nonsense. Please don’t pay it any mind! That’s not what I meant.”

Caleb ignored her completely after that and sat at the side, staring at the door leading into the surgery theater.

The blinking red light on the surgery theater finally dimmed and the door opened, with Rose being pushed out.

Ember was behind them, walking slowly as if she had expended all her energy. She even almost slipped.

Penelope quickly went over to help her up while feigning concern. “Are you okay, Doctor Ember? Come here. Sit and rest for a while.”
