Chapter 20

I waited until the house was silent before I crept out of my room.  I felt ill and needed air.  Maybe Jasper was right, and I was feeling the aftereffects of not giving my body the blood it needed to stay healthy.

I had on my sweater, but since I was used to much warmer weather, I wrapped an autumn themed afghan around me as well before I stepped out onto the porch that ran the full length of the back of the cabin.

I was leaning against the log siding with my eyes closed when Peter’s voice came through the night. “I thought you didn’t love me anymore.”

“I know,” I sniffed.  “I still need to come to terms with what Evan did. I’ve been avoiding dealing with it.  It hurts too much.”

“Do you still love me?” he asked as he leaned on the wall next to me and looked out into the night. He was so close that our shoulders touched, but he made no move to do more.
