The crimson disk of the sun almost disappeared behind the treetops, plunging the forest into dark gray, almost impenetrable tones of twilight. Nearby, a river murmured in a swift stream, and along its banks the song of awakening night dwellers sounded louder and louder, forcing them to shudder from sometimes too loud and unexpected sounds. But these were peaceful sounds - the buzzing of insects, the cries of birds, the rustle of fallen leaves under the paws of animals, not the ones that strained ears tried to catch. And yet, the heavy, uneven footsteps and wheezes escaping from throats unable to recreate other sounds came as a surprise every time. The staggering, dragging figures appeared in clots of darkness between the tree trunks and purposefully walked towards the small group of travelers advancing along the river. Having approached a few steps, they froze in uncertainty, stomped on the spot,
