I rush with the solid stirrings of anger rising within me. How could Adam tell me he doesn't want to be my friend after everything we have been through?
Every night for almost an entire week, I would lie on his massive chest and fall asleep while listening to his drumming heartbeats. A pale thumb would caress my back, make me feel safe as both of us looked up at the stars, thinking about the people we could have been. And his soothing voice, that darkly seductive one, would tell me good night.
